Chapter 1 introduction
Aircraft components are made up of different structural parts with a different geometrical cross sections, orientations and material properties. These structural components cannot be fabricated as single integral part because of the limitation in production process and cost. For this reason, the structural components are made separately with cost effective and suitable production process. To realize a complete aircraft this parts need to be attached and assembled. The assemblies of the structural components need to be safe and stress proof. To achieve the assembly, different kinds of jointing method are used. The joining methods are different in application and kind depending on the load case and cost. The most often used joining method in aircraft structures are molecular joining method and mechanical joints. The type of joining method for this test plan is a mechanical joint. The mechanical joints are also dived in to different categories in a way the joint is utilized. These are the most commonly used mechanical joints on aircraft structural connections, riveted joint, bolted joint lug-pin connections tension fitting joint moreover, the rivet and blot joint can be directly applied to connect the structural part for example the skin of the fuselage is riveted joint. Sometimes the riveted joint and bolted joint are supplemented with plates and stiff structural components to create such as butt joint and lap joints. In this case, channel tension-fitting joint. The channel tension fitting is a structural joint component used to joint or connect a wing box to fuselage. Often joint are highly load structural components of aircraft, since joint and connections are involved in load transferring from one part of the structural component such as the wing box to the other part such as bulk head and frames of the center wing box. The design requirement for channel tension fitting is to have high ratio of strength to weight it needs to be lightweight and stiff. These requirements are achieved in the design process using an optimization method and stress strength analysis. The purpose of this test on the channel fitting is to verify the designed product will function as it was intended, and meets the necessary requirements
