Assignment Guidelines 01

The document outlines the steps for carrying out an assignment on a research problem in education. Step 1 involves identifying a research problem and title. Step 2 is to review 5 past research articles on the topic and write synopses. Step 3 is to write an introductory chapter covering the research problem, theoretical framework, aim, significance and limitations. Step 4 is to write a literature review using the synopses. Step 5 is to write a research design chapter covering the research design, population and sample, instrumentation, data collection, and data analysis framework.

Guidelines for Assignment

In carrying out the assignment you should follow the steps below: Step 1: Identifying the Research Problem Identify a research problem that is of interest to you in the broad area of education. Once you have identified the research problem provide an appropriate title for your study. The title of the research should not be more than 16 words. The title should clear, concise and should reveal the focus of the intended study. Step 2: Reviewing Past Research Select FIVE past research articles from peer-reviewed journals that are directly related to the research problem. Review each of the article and write a synopsis of each in relation to the following aspects (the synopsis will help you in writing your literature review chapter) theoretical basis of each study the variables investigated (if used) the research objectives research questions/hypotheses framed the methodology used the analytical procedures employed the major findings and their significance

Step 3: Writing the Introductory Chapter (Chapter One) Write your introductory chapter keeping in mind the following. Research Problem and Background of the Research Why must this research be done? Data from previous research to support it. Statement of The Problem Statement of the research problem in terms of what the research will attempt to do. Theoretical and Conceptual Framework Relationship between research variables Aim of the Research General aim of the research, objectives, research questions, hypothes. (if any) Significance of the Research Why is it significant to you as a researcher, to the profession, the organisation or the community in general? What benefit will you or they get? Limitation of the Research Factors that limit the research or data collection To what extent can the result be generalised to a bigger population? Definition of Terms Conceptual and operational definition of main variables in the research

Step 4: Writing the Literature Review (Chapter Two) Using the synopses prepared write the literature review taking into consideration your theoretical and conceptual framework.

Step 5: Writing the Research Design (Chapter Three) In writing this chapter you should focus on the following. Research Design What quantitative/qualitative design is used for the research? How do you justify your chosen research design? How appropriate is the research design to address the research objectives? Population and Sample What is the population for the research? What is the sample for the research? What sampling technique will be used and why? Instrumentation What type of instruments will be used in the study? How did you design your instruments? How would you ensure validity and reliability of the instruments? Are there any theoretical and/or past research support for the instruments used? Data Collection What data collection procedures will be used? Are these techniques used in other relevant research and how does that support your research? Data Analysis Framework For each objective/hypothesis identify the data type of data to be collected For each objective /hypothesis write down the respective research question For each objective /hypothesis identify the statistical test/analysis method that will be used
