Context for the Task

Students will be required to individually carry out the end-user approach for
creating software solutions. Each student will be given practical lesson time
for completion of this task. This assessment will assess a students
understanding of the following:
 End-User development.
 Generation of a computer based solution.
 Development of a Graphical User Interface.

Task Description
You work at a local video store called Video OZ and your boss has
approached you about earning some extra money by creating Transaction
Processing System for the company using Microsoft Excel.

Task Rubric

PART 1 - System Design

You are required to use Microsoft Excel to create a software solution that
achieves the following:

Objectives

1. Contains a transaction interface that allows users to enter membership

numbers and video ID’s. This then looks up separate sheets to return more
specific information such as name, address and cost of hire.
20 marks

2. Users are able to enter up to a maximum of five (5) videos for hire.
5 Marks

3. A total is calculated, users then enter how much money was received and
change is calculated.
10 Marks

4. A printed receipt can be given to customers via a macro button.

10 Marks

5. New members and new video data can be easily updated.

5 Marks

6. An interface should be evident which allows users to navigate between

screens via macro buttons.
10 Marks

PART 2 - Evaluation

Students are required to write a ONE (1) page report discussing the
advantages and disadvantages of an End-User Approach. Students are then
required to discuss a situation where this approach would be most suitable,
identifying the software application that would perform the task.
