Short Story Analysis Assignment Label all pages with the title and author of the story the work is related to. Please assure your name, class, and date are on all pages. I would prefer if you submitted your work in a duotang or folder. Read 2 short stories that we are not using as part of the lessons in class. There are short stories in the classroom for your use. Complete the activities listed below. Review the rubric to make sure you have completed all the required work.
Activities: Story #1 & #2: Read the story. Write a response to the story. o Remember to include the bibliographic information at the top of the page, just as you do in Readers Workshop. o Then, write a brief summary of the story. o Next, write a personal reflection of at least page. Identify the short story elements of the story (use the sheet provided). Story #1 only: Write a new ending to the story. o Begin with a passage from the original story. Choose something at or near the point of greatest tension in the story (around the climax or shortly after). o Write out your selected passage. o Change the events that follow the passage so that the outcome is different than the original story. o Write as if you are the author of the short story (use the same style). o Be sure that the events you write about lead to an ending that contains a clear message for the reader. Story #2 only: Create a doodle splash for the story. o On a piece of unlined paper, title the page with the title of the short story. o Sketch/draw the different things you visualized when you were reading the story. o You should include setting, characters, as well as any other items related to the story. o There should be at least 10 items on your page. o Make your doodle splash BBB.
