    n todays world, most people go to the web to find what they are looking for, research different businesses and choose products and services. Thats why having an effective presence online is so important for business growth. Last November, the Chamber launched its new fully-loaded website www.reverechamber.org. Every one of our members is listed alphabetically, for free, in the Business Directory. The Directorys searchable format includes a direct link to each members own website address. The Chambers new multimedia site was designed by Sound & Vision (SAV) Media on Squire Road in Revere and sports such features as the Media Gallery that plays helpful small business videos, the Revere Travel & Tourism Councils Revere Highlights video, beautiful aerial

    photos of Revere Beach and fun pictures of community people enjoying Chamber events. The Chambers Member Benefits page is a handy reference that clearly describes why businesses should become and stay a member. Addi-

    tionally, the History page depicts major accomplishments of each Chamber president, along with their photos, since the Chambers reorganization in 1979.

    We also have a section devoted to Revere Information that includes details on the Citys school system, local government, public safety, healthcare and more.     Chamber Researches Parking Meter Sticker Program


    t last count, Revere has three main areas that use meters in conjunction with traffic control personnel to help regulate parking activities: Broadway, Shirley Avenue and Ocean Avenue along with portions of some adjacent streets. At most of these meters, 25 cents will get you 30 minutes of parking. However, weather temperature, meter condition, coin jams and other factors can impact meter time and accuracy. In all cases, there is a twohour parking limit that is strictly enforced. In all areas, the fine for parking at an expired meter or violating the twohour limit is $20, payable to the City

    within 21 days. For business owners, shoppers, and workers, the current system seems too stringent, inconvenient and downright frustrating. Customers say its hard to find a spot near businesses and workers say they get blanketed with tickets when all they want to do is get to work. Recognizing this frustration, the Revere Chamber of Commerce is researching alternatives that may be useful to the City to more efficiently regulate parking and more effectively collect fees for parking at metered spaces. While building a municipal parking garage(s) might sound like an

    answer, there are questions about location, feasibility and cost. Another possible solution, the Chamber feels, might be to adopt a meter sticker program, similar to one thats been employed by the City of Everett since June 2001. In Everett, meter stickers enable residents, business owners and their employees to purchase pre-paid parking privileges for use at certain meters each month for a set fee. While there is no quick fix for parking problems in Revere, the Chamber hopes to open dialogue that may lead to at least some relief for business owners, their customers and employees. The Chamber is planning a meeting with Mayor Ambrosino to discuss this topic.

    New Member Dues Structure for 2010


    Lower for Most, Small Increase for Some
    ith a new board of directors and slate of officers newly-sworn in, the Chamber is ready to face the challenges of a new economic climate full of changes and special considerations. One of the biggest changes comes as the Revere Chamber of Commerce announces a new, streamlined dues structure for 2010, effective January 12, 2010. The Chamber will still offer members discount rates for regular and special events and offerings. Our goal in revising our dues structure is to make membership in the Revere Chamber of Commerce more accessible across all sectors of Reveres business community, said Chamber president Laura DAmico. Whether a company is large, medium or small, membership in the Chamber comes with benefits, including access to an aggressive, business-based agenda; government relations initiatives; and proactive public relations programs. All of these

    Chamber initiatives are designed to improve the economic climate for businesses in and around Revere. DAmico said. While some businesses will

    see a slight increase in their annual dues (only $15 annually), overall the Chambers new dues structure is lower. In fact, compared to other nearby chambers of commerce and trade associations, membership in Revere Chamber of Commerce is now more affordable than most. The new streamlined structure condenses the price breaks to three categories, Small (0-1 employee);

    Medium (2-50 employees); and Large (51 or more employees). Annual dues are $100; $200; and, $300 respectively. Membership is renewable annually on the anniversary of your enrollment date. The Chambers Board of Directors feels that, overall, the new dues structure positions the Revere Chamber of Commerce as one of the more affordable Chambers in the Boston area. Previously, we had six different price breaks that were determined by number of employees and/or type of business, said Laurie Leone, Chamber Executive Director. With that system, there was a $440 difference in annual dues between some members. The new system makes the whole process easier and more equitable for more people, said Leone.     Walk to Defeat ALS Sunday, April 25, 2010


    Walkers and sponsors are wanted to take part in the second annual Boston Area Walk to Defeat ALS, also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease. The Walk will take place on Sunday, April 25, at Mary OMalley Park at Admirals Hill in Chelsea. Funds from the Walk will go to support a wide array of local ALS Association programs, services, research and housing at the new Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea.
