23 January 2013 Edition

Presidents Report from Natalie Jupe Hello all, Another busy week and January is flying by. I heard from Tom Busby who we sent to RYLA he said The RYLA camp was absolutely amazing! I am so glad he had a good time. He is currently in Melbourne but will arrange with me when he gets back a date that he can come along to one of our meetings to tell us all about it. Relay for Life is creeping up very very fast it is only 23 days away. Please be sure to keep this weekend free as all hands on deck will be required. I will be circulating a roster for the BBQ at tonights meeting there will be 3 x 2hr meals over the 24 hour period. If you are able to stay and assist the Relay committee with other activities outside of our BBQing times that would be even better. There will be a roster circulating closer to the event for that. As most of you know I will be staying the full 24 hours. The good news is that the Queanbeyan Relay for Life has already raised over $23,000 and with 23 more days until the event I am sure we will see this tally rise To join our team or make a donation visit http://relay.cancercouncil.com.au/2013/queanbeyan_2013/Rotary-Club-of-Queanbeyan The other thing I would like to encourage is asking your friends to like our Facebook page. We currently have 169 likes on our page but in order to get the word out to our community we need to increase this number. Please send the following link and ask them to like it http://www.facebook.com/QueanbeyanRotary Also if you have lost a loved one to Cancer and would like them remembered during the Hope Ceremony at the Relay, please send me a photo of them with their names and details. Have a great week and remember Rotary is Rot-a-awesome, Natalie

Rotary Dinners and Home Hosting Session A: Dinner Thursday 10 January 2013 6.20pm with Home Hosting Sunday 13 Jan Session C: Dinner Thursday 24 January 2013 6.20pm with Home Hosting - Sunday 27 Jan Dinner venue: Ainslie Football Club Cost: $35
NYSF Rotary Dinners

The Dinners will be at the Ainslie Football Club in Wakefield Street, Ainslie. Rotarians will meet the students attending the NYSF - from all parts of Australia - and hear a prominent scientist who is invited to address the students. In past years speakers have included Australians of the Year. Arrive early to chat with the students, including those from District 9710. Then well sit down with the students to eat. Clubs are asked to substitute one of their regular weekly meetings in January 2013 and to encourage as many members as possible to attend. Please advise me, as soon as possible, if your Club members are supporting one of the NYSF Rotary Dinners and approximately how many may attend. A list of names of those attending will be required by 14 December and any cancellations or additions no later than one week before each Dinner (ie 3 January and 17 January respectively).
Please note that the number of Rotarians / partners will be limited to 110 at each Dinner, to avoid overcrowding. Any Rotarians who are listed at the RSVP cut-off dates will be required to pay. Please reply by email or phone - details below with names of attendees as early as possible. Payment is required on the night and all Clubs will be provided a make-up list of attendees. NYSF Home Hosting

A key function of each NYSF Rotary Dinner is to organise Rotarians to host two or more students at their home during the Sunday following the reception between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm. This provides students with a relaxing day in a local home and enables them to unwind, and catch up on some sleep and some washing. (Students do not need tours of the area, as this is done elsewhere in the NYSF program). Home hosting has provided many happy experiences for students and Rotarians alike. Members who come to a Dinner do not have to host but all are invited to do so. It would be a big help if Rotarians who wish to home host could indicate this (together with preferred numbers) when registering for the Receptions. Hosts will receive stickers for their badge at registration and students will approach those with stickers to arrange Home Hosting during the reception. Even if you cant come to a Dinner, offer to home host - the students will benefit.
RSVPs Please email your members intended attendance and home hosting plans to me at [email protected]. For phone enquiries please call on 6288 1441 or 0402 464 327.
