Legendary melodic punk rockers Strike Anywhere have pieced together a live acoustic collection, titled In Defiance of Empty Times, that is set to be released on August 14th from Bridge Nine Records. Two sets were recorded last year, in Rochester in July and Richmond in September, and merged together for this very special release. Side Rochester features six songs captured from Strike Anywheres acoustic performance alongside labelmates Polar Bear Club, while Side Richmond was recorded during a benefit show for the IWW on the eve of the Occupy Movement in RVA. This album follows the release of Strike Anywheres landmark album Iron Front, which was released on Bridge Nine in October of 2009 and called the bands best output to date by Punknews.org. Since then, Strike Anywhere has toured the globe numerous times over and will be playing shows in support of In Defiance of Empty Times.

The Equilibrium album features label buddy Zed Bias on co-production duties, and brings to the fore Yannahs unique style - a combination of heartfelt, thoughtful and soulful lyrics with inventive song structures, jazz inflections and cutting edge beats. Yannah first started to identify her own musical path when she discovered jazz as a teenager, and became obsessed with the style. Two discs of rarities begins with the test that Maria Callas recorded with producer Walter Legge in 1953 for EMI before she started recording for the company. Another gem is the one surviving item from an aborted project for Callas to record a programme of duets with Franco Corelli. The tapes remained forgotten until it was discovered that sufficient recording had been done to produce a complete version of the Aida duet. The set also contains an interview with Maria Callas by the American opera commentator Edward Downes, which was broadcast in the USA in two parts during the intermissions of the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts in December 1967 and January 1968. William Walton was the second son of a choirmaster/singing teacher and his wife also a singer. He took lessons in piano and violin but showed no prowess and he sang in his fathers choir showing he had a good voice and was a natural singer. Rather than be schooled locally his father decided that he should compete for a place as a chorister in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. He entered the Oxford choir school in 1912 and immediately showed signs of musical talent and by the age of 12 was composing, much of it for voice or voices but also for piano and organ. He generally found composing difficult and hence his output is relatively small but many of them retain their regular places in concert programmes owing to their well-fashioned charm and strength. Belshazzars Feast, for instance, has become a staple of the Choral Society repertoire.

ANNIVERSARY EDITION
Boult became chief conductor of the LPO retiring in 1957. Although he worked with the other London Orchestras he was generally associated with this one and this set of recordings bears this out. He became a champion of British music, giving numerous performances of Bliss, Britten, Delius, Tippett, Walton and Holst, whos Planets he had premiered, and the aforementioned Elgar and Vaughan Williams that he was primarily associated. His repertoire was wide from Baroque through to modern but it was the main period of Mozart to Brahms where he was pre-eminent. He continued conducting concerts and recordings until 1978.
