Three years after their 2009 comeback, Swedish pop phenomenon Roxette are hotter than theyve been since their early 90s heyday. Roxettes world tour is in full swing with almost one million concert tickets sold since the tour kicked off a year ago at the Tatneft Arena in Russian Kazan. On top of that, another million Roxette records have been added to the already dizzying 70 million they have sold over the years. Roxette has also just announced their first Canadian tour in over 20 years, kicking off in Ottawa at Scotiabank Place on August 29. Produced by Brian Wilson and executive produced by Mike Love, the albums 11 new songs illustrate The Beach Boys unique and evocative West Coast story with the bands timeless signature sound. The Beach Boys collaborative approach to writing and recording their new music is evidenced throughout the album, with all of the band members participating to create its glorious harmonies, lyrics, and arrangements. The albums lead single, Thats Why God Made The Radio, showcases The Beach Boys soaring harmonies in an upbeat, beaming ode to musics radio champions around the world. Alice, a renowned composer and pianist, raised him and proved a strong role model in her own right. Can The Lost Tapes

Spoon Records and Mute are delighted to announce the release of the long awaited 3CD box set of unreleased studio, soundtrack and live material from Can. THE LOST TAPES was curated by Irmin Schmidt and Daniel Miller, and compiled by Schmidt and long time collaborator Jono Podmore. When the legendary Can studio in Weilerswist was sold to the German Rock N Pop Museum, they bought everything, including the army mattresses that covered the walls for sound protection, and relocated it to Gronau. While dismantling the studio, master tapes were found and stored in the Spoon archive. With barely legible labeling, no one was sure what was on these until Irmin and Jono started to go through over 30 hours of music. What they found was years of archived material, not outtakes, but rather tracks which had been shelved for a variety of reasons. Cans influence is well known and far-reaching and the impact they made on music is felt today as keenly as it ever has been. They themselves have always been impossible to classify and reflecting this, the scope of artists who in recent years have cited Can as a major influence is varied from John Lydon to Radiohead, The Fall to Portishead.

The Hollies are one of the most successful bands of the 60s, and along with the Beatles and the stones, helped shape the world of rock & pop as we know it today. They are one of the few bands from the 60s who have never officially broken up, and continue to tour and record. In the beginning, as with most of the groups from that era, R & B and rock & roll covers formed the main part of The Hollies stage performance. This recording is about connections. All four featured composers lived in Paris during the second half of the 19th century and were linked both professionally and personally. Francks great Sonata is like capturing and portraying a life in sound. The first movement is a languid, delicate introduction, with only hints of the ecstasy yet to come. The second movement, with its restless virtuosic piano writing, speaks of the passion of youth, full of angst and yearning. The third movement, with its question and answer between piano and cello, is more philosophical - a contemplative discourse in which moments of quiet desperation balance moments of celestial beauty. The fourth movement is a mature epilogue, growing in joy and excitement until the glorious, triumphant ending. The Debussy Sonata is short, with abrupt and daring changes in mood and colour. Ideas appear and morph so quickly from one emotional state to the next that one is left with only fleeting impressions. Chaussons Pice is a little gem. Its an extremely beautiful and wistful late work - one which needs space to breathe and to sing. Faurs Papillon, by comparison, is a lightning-fast piece where images seem to appear and disappear - like a mirage. WinOna Zelenka, CellO Winona Zelenka is one of Canadas finest cellists on the scene today. As a soloist, she has performed concerti with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Mississauga Symphony and the Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra among many others. She is a dedicated recitalist and chamber musician. COnnie shih, PianO Connie Shih is considered one of Canadas most outstanding artists. As soloist, she has appeared extensively with orchestras and solo recitals throughout Canada, U.S. and Europe, Japan and China.
