Also details were sent to some International Schools in the country. Teachers and students were informed by personal contacts. Application and details were published in Local newpapers, especially in a science weekly newspaper (Vidusara)

select the winners will be held on 29 June 2008 in 8 universities: Colombo, Sri Jayewardeneprua, Kelaniya, Peradeniya, Ruhuna, Jaffna, Eastern and Vaunia campus. Examination was conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages. Test consists of two hour paper: 20 Muliple choice questions and 25 short answer questions (each question with 4 parts) Students were not trained for local comptetion. But model papers and the format was informed to students. Selected students will be trained for next year International Biology Olympiad.(This year, we are not sending any students to IBO) For local competition we have not provided any study materials. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be selected based on the results of the examination paper. These medals will be awarded at IOB sessions on September 2008 in Colombo. They will also be felicitated with other National Olympiad winners (such as Physics, Mathematics Olympiad) at World Science Day Ceremony, organized by National Science Foundation

Published in National Newspapers. Application forms and model papers were published National Weekly Science newspaper called Vidusara. Rs 400 was collected from each student. Registration fees for participation to IOB, India was obtained by National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka Ministry of Education officially informed the schools on the competition. Competition was published at their website. www.schoolnet.lk Questions for examination were also obtained from National Institute of Education. Eligibility: Students who will be sitting for Local or London A/L exams in 2008 or 2009 are eligible to apply. There is no age barrier for Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad. (But to participate International Competition age of the contestants should be below 20 years of age on 30 June 2009.) Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad Competition: The examination to select the winners will be conducted from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon on Sunday 29 June 2008 at the following Centers: University of Colombo, Colombo Eastern University, Batticaloa University of Jaffna, Jaffna University of Kelaniya, Kelaniya University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya University of Ruhuna, Matara University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Nugegoda Candidates are required to sit for two hour paper with 50 MCQ questions and 25 short answer questions. The examination is mainly based on G.C.E. Advanced Level Biology curriculum and may also include questions on the current developments and the application of Biology. Candidates can choose to sit for the examination in Sinhala, Tamil or English medium. Admissions cards will be sent to the selected candidates before 10 June 2008. Selection of Winners: Gold, Silver or Bronze medals will be awarded to selected candidates based on their performance. Decision of the council of the IOB shall be final in the selection of winners. Those who score more than 50% of the marks will be awarded a merit certificate from IOB. All results will be published in IOB website (www.iobsl.org).
