Family Partner Clinical Supervisor Olympia Family Preservation December 26, 2012 CLOSING DATE: Until Filled

I. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Position Description Family Partners collaborate, provide peer support and help facilitate services for families receiving Family Preservation services. They work as a team member with other agency, system and community people. Family Partners help parents voice their own perspective and assure other team members are able to understand that perspective. They represent a parent orientation and perspective in all internal and external agency activities. They build confidence with parents that their family can be successful after services have been completed. B. Position Responsibilities 1. Universal job skills: All CCS Family Preservation employees will demonstrate the ability to: a. Communicate role, responsibility and agency philosophy in order to assure mutual respect, confidence and trust with the child and family and other stakeholders.

b. Provide non-judgmental, unconditional support to the child and family. c. Assess for immediate safety and stabilization needs. d. Customize helping approaches to fit the familys uniqueness, personality, culture and interest. e. Report relevant information to the right people at the right time. f. Maintain a focus on strengths, needs and creative solutions. g. Utilize the familys expertise in problem solving and solution seeking. h. Work interdependently with others toward common goals. i. Respond to familys and childrens needs in a timely fashion. j. Complete required documentation within established timeframes. k. Instill hope for the future by communicating and behaving with confidence and reassurance. 2. Welcome, Engagement and Assessment: The skilled Family Preservation Family Partner will demonstrate the ability to: a. Consult and decide with CCS Therapist/Care Coordinator about the role and added value of a CCS Parent Partner becoming involved with a family. b. Dialogue with referred parents and relate personal experience as a parent that will assist in building trust with the family. c. Assess and review the parents ability to communicate their own position and preferences. d. Reassure and communicate hopefulness to parents and that they are not in this alone. 3. Individualized Service Planning: The skilled Family Preservation Family Partner will demonstrate the ability to: a. Assist the family in assessing options. b. Reach agreement with parents about activities that will contribute to healing and support and assist in communicating that to others. c. Review and analyze the team plan and make suggestions for improvement/ modifications that would improve parent participation. d. Attend team meetings when needed and communicate agreements in cooperation with the parent. 4. Implementing Services: The skilled Family Preservation Family Partner will demonstrate the ability to: a. Provide a range of supportive/helpful interventions and activities as agreed to with the parent and documented in the plan.

b. Adapt activities and interventions to enhance focus on strengths, needs and creativity without changing the basic nature of agreements and plan. c. Assist the parents in analyzing progress toward vision and goals and encourage their feedback to their team. d. Communicate ideas by using own life as a learning and teaching tool (when helpful to family and plan). e. Communicate progress and concerns to the appropriate co-workers. f. Participate in continuous improvement efforts by sharing perspectives in agency activities such as Quality Improvement reviews, staffings or other means. g. Seek assistance and report incidents to the right people at the right time. 5. Transitioning Services to Natural and Other Community Supports: The skilled Family Preservation Family Partner will demonstrate the ability to: a. Negotiate post-discharge follow up, providing contacts of who will be helpful. b. Reach agreement with the parent about their transition. c. Mediate agreement between parent and agency about transition timing, when needed. QUALIFICATIONS: A. Minimum Qualifications 1. Age 21 or older per DSHS requirements. 2. High school diploma/GED 3. Personal experience with a special-needs child who has been a recipient of community services within the past five years. 4. Must have reliable transportation, valid drivers license and automobile insurance. 5. Pass background check through DSHS and Washington State Patrol. 6. Availability to work flexible hours (evenings, nights, weekends). 7. Proof of negative TB test within past 12 months. 8. Agency Affiliated Registration (HIV/AIDS training required). 9. Acceptable driving abstract per CCS driving standards Preferred Qualifications

1. A.A. or B.A. in social sciences, social services or mental health field background. 2. One year relevant experience with social services and mental health agencies with working with people who need assistance.
