Evaluation Activity 5 How Did You Attract/address Your Audience?
Evaluation Activity 5 How Did You Attract/address Your Audience?
This can link to Paranormal Activity as they constantly record themselves of their own experiences Lily turns the camera on, to open the scene.
We used Diegetic Ambient Sound to create tension and a close up shot to point out the camera use.
This can link to Paranormal Activity as it is set in a house and also they use the Ouija Board as innocent children too
The recording and use of the Ouija Board is used to show what the characters are doing. Also casual clothing is used to show what they thought would be nothing.
We used Diegetic Ambient Sound to create tension and a mid-shot or also seen to be an establishing shot to show what is exactly happening
The fingers of both characters are placed on the board to show they both have taken part completely
This can link to Paranormal Activity as it both characters take part in the activity and the Ouija Board is the same
The use of the Ouija Board is used to show what the characters are doing and how is happening
We used Diegetic Ambient Sound/Crawling Sound to create tension and a weird feeling for the audience. A close-up shot of the Ouija Board to show what is happening
The fingers of both characters are placed on the board and the answer is no to Lilys question. Prove it
This can link to Paranormal Activity as it shows that the questions have been answered and both have seen it happen The glass has moved to no which is significant because it is working and to show no mistakes are made We used Diegetic Ambient Sound/Crawling Sound to create tension of the glass moving and how effective it is on the audience. Also to show something major has happened it uses a close-up shot.
Endora is frightened and starts to shake her head as she starts to leave Lily because of what they have done which could be seen to be taboo.
There is a difference in the characters of Paranormal Activity that there is a sense of fear and Endora leaves where the girl in Paranormal Activity stays which is the link We used Diegetic Ambient Sound/Fast beat to create a sense of what is happening and how the characters must be feeling. The over the shoulder shot is used to show the facial expressions of Endora clearly.
The link Endora could have with the Paranormal Activity character is that randomly she gets up from bed at night. So this could show that Endora leaves Lily randomly without saying anything.
Lily is left by herself in a big, lonely room which involves a Ouija Board in the middle of the room with candles to attract spirits which is still going on
We used Non Diegetic Ambient Sound to show what has just happened with Lily and the ambient sound of the candles moving creates suspense for the audience. This comes back to the establishing shot to show Endora has left
Again the link Satanic has with Paranormal Activity is the use of Ouija Board. However, the difference is that Lily is left by herself and now is playing the game alone.
Lily is left by herself and turns the board towards her so she is able to have another attempt at the board and wants to see if it works.
We used Diegetic Ambient Sound to mark the moment of what is happening and how the board now has turned just to Lily. The point of view shot gives a sense of how the character is feeling and what the board looks like when its just in front of her
Lily asks another question by herself but again there is no answer so she gives up instantly without knowing anything has happened yet.
This could link to Paranormal Activity and how both Lily and Katie are similar with their sense of innocence but then again doing something that is prohibited.
We usedNon Diegetic Ambient Sound/ Diegetic Ambient Sound as this is a key moment in the film as something is bound to happen as she is left alone and is playing the Ouija Board. This Medium shot shows the surroundings of the protagonist character.
Lily looks up at the flickering lights above her which is strange because this never tends to happen. She is attacked straight after this.
This could link to Paranormal Activity as both characters use point of view shots to show what is happening and how tense it is.
We usedNon Diegetic Ambient Sound/Light Sparks/Spirit Feeling Sound which creates a strange feeling as an audience with Goosebumps. The spirit like feeling a sense of suspense and most horror films include this point of view shot with weird sounds.
Lily wakes up and sees herself in a field where she doesnt know what happened to her as well as how it happened.
This could link to The Pact as both characters look similar in this position as they are both have pale skin and only their face is shown with their expression and make-up.
We usedNon Diegetic Ambient Sound/Howling Wind to create the sense of disappearance and also to show that Lily has ended up somewhere else. The wind wasnt added by us in the editing, this was naturally in the film as we recorded which was helpful. This shot was an extreme close up.
This could link to Paranormal Activity as the character in the film gets up most nights from bed in the middle of the night; the manner we made Lily get up in was similar to Katies.
Lily has a look around on where she is and what she is doing in this strange area in the first place.
We usedNon Diegetic Ambient Sound/Howling Wind to form a scary feeling for the audience and also the character feels lost with all the grass, especially with the open field behind her as she gets up. This is a mid-shot so the audiences are able to notice the surroundings.
This could link to Paranormal Activity as Lily looks around slowly and slyly at first and so does Katie as she gets out of bed into other rooms and has a look around to see if anyone is awake.
Lily looks to her right and left to see where she is and where she can go. As she looks left she sees the exit sign and starts to run towards it.
We used Non Diegetic Ambient Sound/Howling Wind Noise/Squeaking Sound as it creates more suspense at this stage because of the setting/location. This again had natural wind sound and is seen as a close up shot.
This could link to Paranormal Activity as both characters tend to run either at another person or then in this case away from a spirit which are both linked.
Lily is running to the exit to try and get away from a demon/spirit that seems to be chasing her.
We used Non Diegetic Ambient Sound/Howling Wind Noise/Drums as it starts off to show that the running is tense and something major is about to happen so this builds up the tension This is a Match On Action shot as she runs past fast. This could link to another horror film called The Possession where the little girl runs away from her father towards a spirit in a box. But here Lily runs away from a spirit and not towards it.
Lily is trying to get away from the spirit the best way she can but it seems to be getting closer and closer. She keeps looking back and forward to create that typical protagonist character.
This can finally link to Paranormal Activity as someone gets attacked the screen usually goes blank which shows we have used the same technique
We used Non Diegetic Ambient Sound/Howling Wind Noise/Drums to show the audience what kind of tension is being built up and how the suspense is occurring. At this point the drums are getting faster and faster. This was more effective than a heartbeat as it creates a more of an action like figure. This shot is called Dollying which means some kind of stalker/follower and also this comes up in red to give that spirit like feeling to the audience from his point of view.
Lily has been attacked by some kind of supernatural thing as she runs towards the exit. We used a loud bang towards the end to create a sense of fright and scare.
USP The Unique Selling Point is that it leaves the audience questioning and to find out what has possessed her and what happens after this
