Evaluation Activity 1

The media product uses established conventions of the thriller genre, such as an abandoned warehouse setting and characters carrying pistols, while also adding some original elements. The main character is introduced quickly to pique audience interest without revealing details. He receives an urgent text that interrupts smoking, building suspense. At the warehouse, he puts a gun to the victim's head, confusing the audience's view of him. The film ends on a cliffhanger with a new character's introduction, leaving the audience to ponder meanings. Camerawork and editing, like a blurred and slowed gunshot, aim to make scenes as realistic and suspenseful as possible.

Evaluation Activity 1 In what ways does your media products use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real

media products? In my opinion our finished media product uses the already established conventions and forms of already existing media products. The task was for the group to re-create the opening two minutes of a thriller or horror. This had to be done to a high standard has it had to be comparable to mainstream film. Our film needed to challenge and add innovation to the thriller genre, but still kept to the conventions of a thriller. We wanted to be creative idea so we decided to put together action and thriller this gave us a lot more we could work from has an action thriller gave us a new dynamic in which we wanted to incorporate in our film. We thought this would get rid of the predictability that some thriller may have but we still felt we had to keep to the traditional convention of thrillers which is why we felt strongly on ending on a cliff-hanger when the pace of the film had increased substantially. Setting & Location:

The location of our media product does not challenge the conventions of the thriller but instead conforms to it. We used a warehouse because it was an abandoned location for example in classic action thrillers abandoned locations like warehouses and shipyards have been used to torture and kill their victims. So we thought using this location will establish to be a thriller and strengthen the plot of our media product. The location is unfamiliar to the audience has it is a warehouse so it is a new environment for them to explore visually. Title of the film:

Our title green light is included within the film, while watching the film the audience will be shown the title but to them it corresponds to a different

meaning in the film altogether. Having the title play such an importance to the plot means that it plays a greater role in the film has it corresponds well to the film. When creating the title I wanted to play on the word Light by taking it literally and making the text light up in comparison to the green in which it is a dark and dull colour. Costume and Props:

When deciding what costumes we wanted the main character to wear, we took inspiration from the already established character James Bond. His choice of clothing is formal and sophisticated while is personality is the complete opposite. We did not want the choice clothing to reflect our own characters personality this was so we could counter the stereotype that violent characters are meant to have a predetermined dress code to know that they are violent.

We wanted to our character to be compared to James Bond but we did not want him to be a carbon copy. So by implying that he smokes brings something new to our character. We wanted the character to smoke to prologue the time taking for him to receive the text. Having a character that smokes builds suspense this is because smokers smoke when they stressed.

The gun we felt was the best choice weapon for the execution because we felt we had a realistic looking gun and the editor could add an effect to create an even

more realistic gunshot scene. We took inspiration from action thriller for the main characters choice of weapon has in the films we looked at the main characters all had pistols in which they used with upmost skill.

Character Introduction:

The audience is introduced to the main character really quickly with a close up of his face. The audience is given enough time to familiarize themselves with him so that they can build up an opinion of him but because not much information is given about him until later on in the film.

The audience is introduced to the victim from the point of view of the main character so the audience empathises with him. The audience dont know if the main character is going to come to the aid of the victim.

The audience is introduced to the last character straight after the death of the victim. Although his face is not covered up the audience do not get a full view of him and his purpose is yet to be known but because of this the audience will draw on conclusions about the character which is what a thriller is meant to do. Plot: In the opening of the film the audience is introduced to the main character right at the beginning so cannot make a judgement of him. The character then receives a text after attempting to smoke this shows the audience that the text and its instructions are so important he is forced to throw away the cigarette before he could smoke. He then walks to the warehouse where the victim is waiting for him the audience empathise with the victim when the main character puts a gun to his head this also creates an enigma because the audience are forced into hating the main character for killing the victim but wonder why the victim deserved to die in such a way. The film ends in a cliff-hanger like classic thrillers with the audience left to ponder about the introduction of a new character and the significance of the main character withdrawing his gun. Camerawork, Editing and Special Effect:

To create the gun shot we added a muzzle flash slowed it down to 10% and blurred it to create a realistic gun shot. The use of all this made the scene all the more impressive the gun shot we used was in time with the clip. The suspense been built before shooting complemented each other well.

The shot was slowed down to add suspense has we felt the walk was important because it leads to the death of the main character victim. This gives the audience enough time to see the change of emotion in the characters face because the audience still dont know the purpose of the text what it symbolises
