Climate

The climate in Ancient Mayan was very sunny and barely any rain. It was very hot and dry with long droughts. Rainy season is between the months of May to October..

Geography
Lowlands were coved by a rain forest height of 150 feet. Mayans lived in the jungle because they have tropical regions. The Mayan civilization was located in the place we now call Mexico.

INTERESTING FACTS The Mayans sacriced for other people in war. Mayans lived in rich cities made of stone with high pyramids. Mayans would pray to gods, sun, moon, rain, and corn during religious ceremonies.

Mayans were well known for their hieroglyphics symbols that were carved on bone or stone. These symbols were also painted on pottery to communicate words and ideas.

Cultural and Social Needs


Women would put on a rectangle piece of cloth, called a tzute, that they would wear on their shoulders or around their neck. They wore a blouse, called a huipil, and skirt. Single men wear bright clothes and belts that are woven on blue or red. The King would wear a headdress. Men would wear jackets that were made from animal eece.

Social Needs (Sports, Art Education)


There are over 600 ball courts in Mexico. The ball game was called paktotok. One of the Mayan sports involved hitting a ball though a ring. Mayans play two main kinds of games, Hardball and Big ball. Music was used for entertainment. Some of the instruments they used were drums, utes, marimba, whistles, and maracas. Some drums were made from tortoiseshells. They played during funerals, special activities, and ceremonies. They would play for there leaders after winning a war. They would make utes out of bone, wood, or reed. They found something when they were digging; a stringed instrument that sounds like a jaguars growl. Mayans were good at art, mathematics, farming, and astronomy. Education was taught only to higher class people like priests and leaders. The lower class were educated by their family families. Fathers were responsible for training their boys at the age of four or ve years old. The Mayans excelled in math, arts, farming, architecture and astronomy.

Government
The nobles rule the government. Once the ruler died the son would take his place until he died his son would take over his job. The father paid warriors to help him take over the job and it would keep going and going.

Physical Needs (Food Clothing Homes )


Most foods that the ancient Mayans ate were foods that they hunted like wild turkeys, sh, ducks, monkeys, and deer. They also ate sweet potatoes, beans, and corn was important. They used corn to make our, all kinds of food and drinks. Some of the nobles even wove their hair to resemble tassels of corn. The roof is made out of shore wood. Mayan homes were built on low platforms with no chimneys or windows. They used cloth screens instead of doorways.
