geography climate

The Roman climate depends on the area. They usually had mild winters with lots of rain. The summer was hot with droughts. In Ancient Rome the landforms were desserts, mountains, swamps, forests and hills. They had lots of farm land. The City of Rome was built on a hill near the ocean in the country we now call Italy.

Coins were a way to symbolize the Emperor and tell of his deeds. Olive branch symbolize peace. Another symbol is Minotaur which is half man, half bull. She Wolf is a legend/myth who found and fed Romulus and Remus who were said to be twin gods of Mars.

Cultural and Social Needs


In Ancient Rome times the rich people drank lots of wine. The men had dinner parties. The poor people ate mostly vegetables and they ate porridge made of vegetables. The mother or female slave made the meal. They ate with ngers or spoons. The Romans were not good musicians like the Geeks. These are some of the Roman instruments, lute (an early guitar), organs, kithara (ancient guitar), lyre (stringed instrument), utes, tympani or tambourines, trumpets and french horn, vocals and pan pipes.

government
The Roman Government did not allow women to be consuls (members of government). Two elected consuls shared the head of government for one year with members of the Senate. The Senate was made up from wealthy families who the consuls chose and their job was for life. Romans used ideas from the Greek Government.

physical needs (Homes, food, and clothing)


In Ancient Rome times people wore togas that looked like white sheets. It went out of fashion because it was too cold to wear in the winter. They wore tunics that looked like long t-shirts that kept them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Some men wore only one ring but some men wore many. Men had long hair and beards. Women wore necklaces, pins, bracelets, rings, pearls were favourite. The women died their hair red. The men and women wore sandals made out of leather. The children wore Bulla, a chain to protect from evil that they got when they are born.

The poor people had one room in their homes. The homes had a wooden oor. An entire family usually lived in the same house or apartment. It is crowded in their house. Some homes had running water. The rich people lived in houses made of red bricks. The rich houses had mosaics on the oor. They had private bathrooms in their house. Most of the rich houses had rooms around a courtyard.social needs

(sports, arts, and education)


Children didnt go to school. The girls got taught by their mothers. Girls learned to spin,weave and sew. The rich went to school and the poor went to work. The little kids learned they abc and older kids learned to read Greek and Roman authors.

The sports that were played in ancient Roman times were deadly. Alot of the athletes died while playing the games. The games were played at the Colosseum while people watched. They watched wild beast hunts and gladiator ghts at the games. The women couldnt sit with the men because they had to sit behind a wall. chariot racing was popular to do.
