Project Sentry Gun Sentry Controller v5: Setup Instructions

The document provides setup instructions for a Project Sentry Gun controller board. It lists and describes the various connectors and components on the board, including connections for servo motors, gun batteries/motors, disable switches, and USB interface. It instructs the user to plug in power for the servos, connect the servo and gun components to the appropriate ports, and optionally wire up disable switches. The user is then directed to install drivers and upload code using the Arduino IDE to operate the sentry gun system.

Setup Instructions: 1. Plug in the servo power source to the Servo PWR jack (N). This must provide the proper voltage for your servo motors, commonly 6V. The power source should plug in using a standard 5.5mm barrel connector, center pin positive. (Optionally, you can skip the 5.5mm connector, and solder wires to the nearby connection points (R) instead.) Note: for high-torque servo motors requiring more than 5 amps of current, the board may get warm during high-load periods. 2. Plug in the servo motors. The Y-axis servo plugs into the Tilt connector (P). The X-axis servo plugs into the Pan connector (Q). If you are using a trigger servo, the trigger servo plugs into the Trigger connector (O). 3. If using an electric gun instead of a trigger servo: Verify the + and - wires of the gun motor and battery. Then, solder the gun battery wires to the two solder pads labeled GB (L). Make sure the + wire goes to the pad labeled +, and the wire to the pad labeled -. Solder the gun motor wires to the pads labeled GM (K), again noting the polarity of the wires. 4. If you would like to use the optional Disable Plate function: Solder two wires to the pads labeled DP (N). At the other end of this wire pair, attach a momentary-type button, or a momentary switch. This switch will be pressed when a target on the sentry is shot, and will disable the sentry for a period of 10 seconds after it is released. Optional switch bypasses can be soldered to the available connection points next to each switch. This allows you to run wires to your own switches, located somewhere else on the sentry. The extra set of bypasses are for an optional reload position switch (J). 5. Plug the Controller into your computer using a USB A to B type cable. Let the computer install the proper drivers (if you have to select from a list, choose the one with FT232RL in the name). 6. Code can be uploaded using the Arduino IDE.
