Government IT Priority Rankings
Fort Meade and the U.S. Cyber Command are located in the Baltimore Metropolitan area, creating tremendous demand for professionals and real estate to accommodate this growing industry. Additionally, the U.S. Naval Academy has recently announced plans to develop a $100 million on-campus Center for Cybersecurity Studies to coincide with its new Cyber Operations major. Congress will soon revisit the Cybersecurity Act of 2012, a bill designed to regulate security standards for computer networks running major transportation and utility systems. Passage of this bill would increase demand for cybersecurity services nationwide among private companies.

The recent 2006 BRAC movement relocated approximately 14,200 government and military jobs to Baltimore, creating a significant demand for a robust cybersecurity industry. Fort Meades supply of high-level tech jobs and demand for a highly educated workforce has been a perfect match for Baltimore, one of the highest educated metropolitan areas in the country. University of Maryland Baltimore County created Marylands first Masters in Professional Studies in Cybersecurity and partners with many of the top government contractors to train students at the UMBC Center for Cybersecurity Training.

Close proximity to government decision makers in Washington D.C. has provided Baltimore with a distinct High Priority geographical advantage. Maryland Congressman Dutch 85% Ruppersberger, whose 2nd District includes both Fort Moderate Priority Meade and Aberdeen Proving Ground, spent four years 39% as Chairman of the Technical and Tactical Intelligence Low Priority Subcommittee, which oversees the countrys cybersecurity agencies.

Construction has remained consistent since 2006, despite a severe national 0 0 21% recession. More than one-third of existing Class A space in the Northern Baltimore Dallas Los Angeles San Francisco Baltimore-Washington Corridor has been delivered over the past six years with a steady Silicon Valley 20% stream of projects in the pipeline. Station Ridge delivered another 87,000 square foot facillity in the fourth quarter of 2012 and the National Business Park has a 140,000 19% square foot facility currently under construction with additional facilities in the pipeline.
