The line voltage selector switch is located on the rear panel. Check that it is set properly before plugging the power cord into the outlet. If the voltage is not properly set or if you move to an area where the voltage requirements differ, adjust the selector switch as follows: Be sure to disconnect the power cord from its outlet before making this adjustment. Use a medium-sized (flat blade) screwdriver. Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the groove of the selector switch and turn it so that the power voltage marking of your area points to the arrow.

Pioneer incorporates highest quality amp circuitry featuring Advanced Direct Energy MOS FET devices which can achieve higher performance. Together with Pioneers original Wide Range Linear Circuit technology they reduce power consumption while maintaining the power output of current models. INSTALLATION
LOCATION
Install the unit in a well-ventilated location where it will not be exposed to high temperatures or humidity.
Do not install the unit in a location which is exposed to direct rays of the sun, or near hot appliances or radiators. Excessive heat can adversely affect the cabinet and internal components. Installation of the unit in a damp or dusty environment may also result in a malfunction or an accident. (Avoid installation near cookers etc., where the unit may be exposed to oily smoke, steam or heat.) Do not install the unit on a tottered stand, nor on an unstable or inclined surface.

VENTILATION
When installing this unit, make sure to leave space around the unit for ventilation to improve heat radiation (at least 60 cm at top, 10 cm at rear, and 30 cm at each side). WARNING: Slot and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, to prevent fire hazard, the openings should never be blocked and covered with items, such as newspapers, table-cloths, curtains, etc. Also do not put the apparatus on the thick carpet, bed, sofa, or fabric having a thick pile.

AC POWER CORD
NOTE:
Do not allow any of the cord conductors to protrude from the terminals or touch any other conductors. Malfunctioning or breakdowns may occur when conductors come into contact with each other.
Plug in the power cord first to the amplifier and then to the wall outlet after you have finished hooking up the rest of your equipment.

CAUTION!
Do not use any other power cord than the one supplied with this unit. The amplifier should be disconnected by removing the mains plug from the wall socket when not in regular use, e.g. when on vacation.
Please use the correct cord and plug for your region.

Speaker Impedance [A-209]

When speaker systems are connected to only SPEAKERS A or SPEAKERS B terminals, such speakers should have rated impedance in the range of 416 . When speaker are connected to both A and B terminals, they should have a rated impedance in the range of 8 32 .

1 POWER (OFF/_ON) switch

Press to turn power to the unit ON and OFF.

4 TAPE 2 MONITOR button/indicator

Use when there is an adaptor component (graphic equalizer, etc.) or cassette deck connected to the TAPE 2 MONITOR terminals. On : Indicator lights when using the adaptor component or listening to the cassette deck. Off : Indicator goes off when not in use.

2 VOLUME control
Use to adjust the volume level.

3 INPUT SELECTOR knob/indicators

Turn the knob clockwise or counterclockwise so that the indicator lights for your desired input source. Turning the knob clockwise causes the lit indicator to right. Turning counterclockwise causes it to left. CD : For compact disc playback with a CD player. TUNER : For AM or FM broadcast reception with a tuner. PHONO : For record playback with a turntable. LINE : Set to this position when listening to the program from a component connected to the LINE terminals. TAPE 1/CD-R/MD:For playback with a cassette deck,CD recorder or MD recorder connected to TAPE1/CD-R/ MD terminals.

NOTES:
When no connections are made to the TAPE 2 MONITOR terminals, or when they are not in use, be sure to set this switch to the off position. (No sound will be heard if it is set to the on position.) When the TAPE 2 MONITOR indicator is on and the INPUT SELECTOR knob is not set to TAPE 1/CD-R/MD, the signals which are input through TAPE 2 MONITOR are then output at TAPE 1/CD-R/MD REC OUT.

5 BALANCE control
Should normally be left in the center position. Adjust balance if the sound is louder from one of the speakers. If the right side is louder, turn toward the L (left) position and if the left side is louder, turn toward the R (right) position.

NOTE:
This control does not operate when the DIRECT button is in the on position.

6 DIRECT button/indicator
Use this button when you do not wish to pass the output from input terminal equipment through the various frequency adjusting circuits (BASS, TREBLE, BALANCE, LOUDNESS). On : The indicator lights: The signals passing through the input terminals are reproduced without passing through the various frequency adjusting circuits. This results in flat, pure sound which is a more faithful reproduction of the input source. Off : The indicator goes off: The signal passes through the various frequency adjusting circuits.

0 SPEAKERS B (ON/OFF) button/indicator

(A-209 only)
Use this button to listen to the speaker system connected to SPEAKERS B terminals. ON : The indicator lights. Sound is heard from the speaker system. OFF : The indicator goes off. No sound is heard from the speaker system. Set to this position when listening with headphones.

- PHONES jack
When using headphones, insert the plug into this jack.

7 LOUDNESS button/indicator
Use when listening at low volume levels. On : The indicator lights: Boosts low and high frequencies to give added punch to playback even at a low volume level. Off : The indicator goes off: Should normally be left in this position.

NOTE:
The speakers continue to output sound even when headphones are plugged into this jack. To mute the sound from the speakers, press the SPEAKERS button to OFF.

NOTE:
This button does not operate when the DIRECT button is in the on position.

8 TREBLE tone control

Use to adjust the high-frequency tone. The center position is the flat (normal) position. When turned to the right, highfrequency tones are emphasized; when turned to the left, high-frequency tones are de-emphasized.

~ AC INLET jack
Connect one end of the power cord to here and the other end to an AC wall socket, or the AC outlet of an audio timer. If you are going to be away from home for a long period of time, disconnect the unit from the wall socket.

AC Power Cord & Socket

This model has two power cords and plug converters. Since the type of cord and the plug converter which can be used depends on the power voltage in each region or country, you must be aware of the power voltage in your country/region. If cord and/or plug converter are used incorrectly they could cause a fire or other extremely dangerous situations. Please make sure you use the correct cord and plug converter. For more information see page 5.

NOTE:
If you use an other power cord than provided, we cannot assume the liabilities in what may occur as a result of it.

OPERATIONS

1. Set the VOLUME control to minimum. 2. Set the POWER switch to ON. 3. Press the SPEAKERS button corresponding to the speaker system to be used. (A-209 only) Press the SPEAKERS switch to ON. (A-109 only) 4. Set the BALANCE control to the center position. 5. Set the DIRECT button to off. 6. Set the TAPE 2 MONITOR button to off.

When two decks are used, you can record the sounds from one deck onto the other.

Application examples:
To make a tape copy with contents identical to the original tape. To edit a recording of an FM broadcast in order to cut out unwanted commercials, recording only of desired material onto another tape.

PLAYBACK PROCEDURES
1. Set the INPUT SELECTOR knob to the desired playback source.
For playback of a compact disc: Set to [CD]. For reception of an AM/FM broadcast: Set to [TUNER]. For playback of a record: Set to [PHONO]. For playback with the equipment connected to the LINE terminals: Set to [LINE]. For playback of a tape: Set to [TAPE 1/CD-R/MD].

1. Load tapes for playback (pre-recorded tape) and recording (blank tape) into the respective cassette decks. 2. Select the copying direction with the INPUT SELECTOR knob and TAPE 2 MONITOR button.
When copying from the cassette deck of the TAPE 1/ CD-R/MD terminals to the cassette deck of the TAPE 2 MONITOR terminals: Set the INPUT SELECTOR knob to TAPE 1/CD-R/MD. When copying from the cassette deck of the TAPE 2 MONITOR terminals to the cassette deck of TAPE 1/ CD-R/MD terminals: Set the TAPE 2 MONITOR button to ON and the INPUT SELECTOR knob to a position other than TAPE 1/CD-R/MD.

NOTES:
When you do not want to monitor the TAPE 2 MONITOR sound, set the TAPE 2 MONITOR button to OFF. When you select PHONO, the sound is muted for a few seconds.

3. Operate the cassette decks to begin copying.

Set the cassette deck with the original (playback) tape to the playback mode, and set the cassette deck with the blank tape to the recording mode.

2. Operate the equipment to begin playback. 3. Adjust playback volume with the VOLUME control on this unit. 4. Adjust the tone to your preference using the BASS and TREBLE controls, and LOUDNESS button.

RECORDING TAPES
1. Select the recording equipment with the INPUT SELECTOR knob. 2. Begin recording by operating the recording equipment and cassette deck.
Refer to the operating instructions of your cassette deck for proper operating procedures.

TO USE THE COMPONENT CONNECTED TO THE TAPE 2 MONITOR TERMINALS

[For a cassette deck]
A cassette deck connected here can be operated in the same way (recording and playback) as a deck connected to the TAPE 2 MONITOR terminals. Also, if two decks are used, you can copy tapes from one deck onto the other (see the section on COPYING TAPES).

1. Set the TAPE 2 MONITOR button to ON. 2. Operate the cassette deck to perform playback (or recording).

NOTE:
The source selected with the INPUT SELECTOR knob is backed up for a few days even when the POWER switch is set to off or the power cord is unpluged. After this period, the CD is automatically selected when the power is supplied.

[For an adaptor component]

By connecting a graphic equalizer, source sounds (from discs, tapes, AM/FM broadcasts, etc.) can be heard with added sound and tone compensation. Sounds compensated with the adaptor component can be recorded on the cassette deck connected to the TAPE 1/CDR/MD terminals.

1. Set the TAPE 2 MONITOR button to ON. 2. Play back the source. 3. Operate the adaptor component.

NOTE:
Be sure to perform this operation with the adaptor component power switch in the on position. Even when not using the adaptor component, its power switch must be left on. If the adaptor component is switched off, no sound will be produced, or the playback sound will be distorted.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Symptom No power supplied to unit.

Cause Power plug is disconnected from outlet. The amplifiers power plug has been plugged into another components power outlet (e.g. timer, etc.) but power to that unit is disconnected. The AC INLET plug is disconnected. Connecting cords are disconnected from terminals, or connected incorrectly. Terminals, or connecting cords pin plugs are dirty. The TAPE 2 MONITOR button is set to ON (except when using an adaptor component). Operation of other components is incorrect. The position of the INPUT SELECTOR does not match the component to be played back. Both SPEAKERS selector buttons are set to OFF (A-209 only). SPEAKERS button is set to OFF (A-109 only).

Remedy Insert plug securely into outlet. Turn on power to other component.

Insert the AC INLET plug securely till the bottom of the jack. Connect securely. Clean terminals and plugs. Set the button to OFF. Consult the operating instructions for the other components. Set the button correctly (CD, TUNER, PHONO, LINE, TAPE 1/CD-R/MD). Set one button or both buttons to ON (A209 only). Set the button to ON (A-109 only). Connect securely. Set BALANCE control to center position. Reconnect properly. Consult the operating instructions for the cassette deck. Set the TAPE 2 MONITOR button to OFF. Set buttons correctly. (See section COPYING TAPES.) Consult the operating instructions for the cassette decks.

No sound.

No sound from one speaker.

Connecting cords or speaker cords are disconnected on that side. BALANCE control is set to one side. Connections are incorrect. Operation of cassette deck is incorrect. The TAPE 2 MONITOR button is set to ON. The position of the INPUT SELECTOR knob and TAPE 2 MONITOR button are incorrect (when using 2 cassette decks). Operation of cassette decks is incorrect.

Cannot record tapes.

Cannot perform tape copying.

Abnormal functioning of this unit may be cased by, static electricity, or other external interference. To restore normal operation, turn the power off and then on again, or unplug the AC power cord and then plug it in again.

Incorrect operations are often mistaken for trouble and malfunctions. If you think that there is something wrong with this component, check the points below. Sometimes the trouble may lie in another component. Investigate the other components and electrical appliances being used.  Use a polishing cloth or dry cloth to wipe off dust and dirt. When the surfaces are very dirty, wipe with a soft cloth dipped in some neutral cleanser diluted five or six times with water, and wrung out well, and then wipe again with a dry cloth. Do not use furniture wax or cleaners. Never use thinners, benzine, insecticide sprays or other chemicals on or near this unit, since these will corrode the surfaces.

POWER-CORD CAUTION
Handle the power cord by the plug. Do not pull out the plug by tugging the cord and never touch the power cord when your hands are wet as this could cause a short circuit or electric shock. Do not place the unit, a piece of furniture, etc., on the power cord, or pinch the cord. Never make a knot in the cord or tie it with other cords. The power cords should be routed such that they are not likely to be stepped on. A damaged power cord can cause fire or give you an electrical shock. Check the power cord once in a while. When you find it damaged, ask your nearest PIONEER authorized service center or your dealer for a replacement.

CARACTERISTICAS
7 Amplificador de potencia MOS de energa avanzada
Pioneer incorpora el sistema de circuitos electrnicos de amplificador de ms alta calidad, que incluye los dispositivos MOS FEET de energa directa avanzada, los cuales pueden alcanzar unas mayores prestaciones. Junto con la tecnologa original de Pioneer Wide Range Linear Circuit (circuito lineal de banda ancha), stos reducen el consumo de energa manteniendo a la vez la potencia de salida de los modelos actuales. En trminos de prestaciones, esta tecnologa contribuye a proporcionar las caractersticas del factor de amortiguacin plana a travs del espectro de audio. INSTALACION
UBICACION
Instale la unidad en una ubicacin bien ventilada donde no est expuesta a alta temperatura o humedad.
No instale la unidad en una ubicacin donde est expuesta a los rayos directos del sol, o cerca de artefactos calientes o radiadores. El calor excesivo puede afectar adversamente el gabinete o los componentes internos. La instalacin de la unidad en un ambiente hmedo o polvoriento puede causar accidentes o mal funcionamiento. (Evite tambin la instalacin en la cercana de cocinas, etc., donde la unidad pueda estar expuesta a humos de aceite, vapor o calor.) No instale la unidad en un soporte tambaleante, ni en una superficie inclinada o inestable.

VENTILACION
Cuando se instala esta unidad, asegrese de dejar espacio alrededor de la unidad para proporcionar ventilacin y mejorar as la radiacin del calor (por lo menos 60 cm en la parte superior, 10 cm en la parte trasera y 30 cm de cada lado). ADVERTENCIA: Las rendijas en el aparato es necesario para la ventilacon para permitir el funcionamento del producto y para proteger este de sobrecalentamiento, para evitar incendio. Las rendijas no deberan ser nunca cubiertas con objectos, como peridicos, manteles, tiendas, etc. Tambim no poner el aparato sobre alfombra espesa, cama, sof o construcin de pila espesa.

MANTENIMIENTO DE LAS SUPERFICIES EXTERNAS

Use un pao de pulir o un pao seco para quitar polvo y suciedad. Cuando las superficies estn demasiado sucias, use un pao suave humedecido en un limpiador neutro. Diluya una porcin de limpiador en cinco o seis porciones de agua. Luego, limpie nuevamente con un pao seco. No use cera para muebles u otros limpiadores. Nunca aplique diluyente, bencina, insecticida aerosol u otros productos qumicos a la unidad. Evite tambin usarlos cerca de la misma. Este tipo de productos causar la corrosin de las superficies de la unidad. 5 6

Tenga cuidado para que ningn hilo de cobre sobresalga de los terminales o toque otros cables. Si dos cables se tocan pueden producirse daos de distinta ndole.

Impedancia de altavoces [A-209]

Cuando los sistemas de altavoces estn conectados en los terminales SPEAKERS A o SPEAKERS B solamente, tales sistemas de altavoces debern tener una impedancia nominal de entre 4 a 16 . Cuando los sistemas de altavoces estn conectados a ambos terminales, SPEAKERS A y SPEAKERS B, su impedancia nominal deber ser de entre 8 a 32 .

5 Control BALANCE
Normalmente, mantenga este control en su posicin central. Ajuste el equilibrio si el nivel de sonido es mayor en uno de los altavoces. Si el sonido es mayor en el lado derecho, gire el control hacia la izquierda (L), y si el sonido es mayor en el lado izquierdo, gire el control hacia la derecha (R).

6 Botn/indicador DIRECT
Use este botn cuando no quiera que la salida pase desde el equipo terminal de entrada a travs de varios circuitos ajustadores de frecuencia (BASS, TREBLE, BALANCE, LOUDNESS). Activado : El indicador se ilumina. Las seales introducidas a travs de los terminales de entrada se reproducen sin pasar por diversos circuitos de ajuste de frecuencia. Esto produce un sonido uniforme y puro, una reproduccin ms fiel de la fuente de seales de entrada. Desactivado : El indicador se apaga. La seal pasa a travs de diversos circuitos de ajuste de frecuencia.

Se usa para escuchar en un volumen de nivel bajo. Activado : El indicador se ilumina. Se refuerzan las frecuencias bajas y altas para aadir ms intensidad a la reproduccin, incluso a bajos niveles de sonido. Desactivado : El indicador se apaga. El botn debe dejarse normalmente en esta posicin.

DIRECT ON

Se utiliza para ajustar el tono de alta frecuencia. La posicin central es la de repuesta plana (normal). Cuando se gira el control hacia la derecha toman nfasis los tonos de alta frecuencia. Cuando se gira hacia la izquierda, los tonos de alta frecuencia pierden nfasis.

9 BASS

Se utiliza para ajustar el tono de baja frecuencia. La posicin central es la de repuesta plana (normal). Cuando se gira el control hacia la derecha toman nfasis los tonos de baja frecuencia. Cuando se gira hacia la izquierda, los tonos de baja frecuencia pierden nfasis.

Este modelo tiene dos cables de alimentacin y dos adaptadores. Dado que el tipo de cable y el adaptador dependen de la tensin de cada regin o pas, debe conocer la tensin que se utiliza en su pas/ regin. PROCEDIMIENTOS DE REPRODUCCION
1. Usando la perilla INPUT SELECTOR, seleccione la fuente de reproduccin deseada.
Para reproducir un disco compacto: Ponga en la posicin [CD]. Para recibir una radiodifusin por AM/FM: Ponga en la posicin [TUNER]. Para reproducir un disco: Ponga en la posicin [PHONO]. Para realizar la reproduccin con el equipo conectado en los terminales LINE: Ponga en la posicin [LINE]. Para la reproduccin de una cinta: seleccione [TAPE 1/CD-R/ MD].

GRABACION DE CINTAS
1. INPUT SELECTOR 1. Seleccione el equipo de reproduccin con el control INPUT SELECTOR. 2. Inicie la grabacin utilizando el equipo de reproduccin y la platina de casete.
Consulte el manual de instrucciones de su magnetfono donde se explican los procedimientos de funcionamiento apropiados.

COPIA DE CINTAS
Utilizando dos magnetfonos, usted podr grabar los sonidos de un magnetfono (o un casete) en el otro.

FM

Ejemplos de utilizacin:
Para copiar una cinta cuyo contenido sea idntico al de la cinta original. Para compaginar la grabacin de una radiodifusin por FM, eliminando anuncios publicitarios y grabando solamente el material deseado en otra cinta.

FUNCIONAMIENTO
1. Cargue cintas para reproduccin (cinta previamente grabada) y para grabacin (cinta sin grabar) en los magnetfonos respectivos. 2. Seleccione la direccin de copia con la perilla INPUT SELECTOR y con el botn TAPE 2 MONITOR.
Cuando copie del casete de los terminales TAPE 1/CD-R/MD al casete de los terminales TAPE 2 MONITOR, coloque el mando INPUT SELECTOR en, TAPE 1/CD-R/MD. Cuando copie del casete de los terminales TAPE 2 MONITOR al casete de los terminales, TAPE 1/CD-R/MD, coloque el botn TAPE 2 MONITOR en ON y el mando INPUT SELECTOR en otra posicin distinta a, TAPE 1/CD-R/MD.

[Para un magnetfono]
Un magnetfono conectado aqu podr operarse del mismo modo (grabacin y reproduccin) que un magnetfono conectado a los terminales TAPE 2 MONITOR. Adems, si utiliza dos magnetfonos, podr copiar cintas de un magnetfono a otro (vea la seccin de COPIA DE CINTAS).

Conectando un ecualizador grfico, el sonido de la fuente (de discos, cintas, radiodifusiones de AM/FM, etc.) podr escucharse con la compensacin del sonido y del tono aadida. Los sonidos compensados con el componente adaptador se pueden grabar en el casete conectado a los terminales TAPE 1/CD-R/MD.

NOTA:
Asegrese de efectuar esta operacin con el interruptor de alimentacin del componente adaptador activado (ON). Si el componente adaptador es apagado, la unidad no emitir sonido, o el sonido de reproduccin aparecer distorsionado.

Frecuentemente se toman por averas problemas debidos a operaciones incorrectas. Si usted cree que hay algo que no funciona con normalidad en este aparato, compruebe los puntos siguientes. A veces el problema reside en otro componente. Investigue los dems componentes y aparatos elctricos que est utilizando. Si el problema no puede solucionarse incluso despus de haber realizado las comprobaciones de la lista de abajo, lleve el aparato a reparar al centro de servicio tcnico autorizado por PIONEER o al establecimiento en donde lo compr. Sntoma No se enciende el aparato. Causa probable El enchufe de alimentacin est desconectado desde la entrada y salida. El enchufe del cable de alimentacin ha sido enchufado en la toma de corriente de otro componente (temporizador, etc., por ejemplo) pero la alimentacin de ese aparato est desconectada. La clavija AC INLET est desconectada. Los cables de conexin estn desconectados de los terminales, o han sido conectados en forma incorrecta. Terminales, o enchufes de clavijas de los cables de conexin, sucios. El botn TAPE 2 MONITOR est en ON (excepto cuando se utiliza un componente adaptador). No es correcto el funcionamiento de otros componentes. La posicin del control INPUT SELECTOR no coincide con el componente que va a realizar la reproduccin. Ambos botones selectores SPEAKERS en la posicin OFF (A-209 solamente). El botn SPEAKERS est en OFF (A-109 solamente). No hay sonido de un altavoz. Cables de conexin o cables de altavoces desconectados en ese lado. El control BALANCE est en un lado. Conexiones incorrectas. Funcionamiento incorrecto del magnetfono. El botn TAPE 2 MONITOR est en ON. No pueden copiarse cintas. La posicin del control INPUT SELECTOR y del botn TAPE 2 MONITOR no es correcta (cuando se utilizan 2 platinasde casete). El funcionamiento de los magnetfonos no es correcto. Remedio Inserte el enchufe seguramente en la entrada y salida. Conecte la alimentacin del otro componente.

Inserte firmemente hasta el fondo de la toma la clavija AC INLET. Conctelos firmemente. Limpie los terminales y los enchufes. Ponga el botn TAPE 2 MONITOR en OFF. Consulte el manual de instrucciones de los otros componentes. Fije correctamente el botn (CD, TUNER, PHONO, LINE, TAPE 1/CD-R/MD). Ponga un conmutador selector o ambos, en la posicin ON (A-209 solamente). Pngalo en ON (A-109 solamente). Conctelos firmemente. Ponga el control BALANCE en la posicin central. Vuelva a conectar correctamente. Consulte el manual de instrucciones del magnetfono. Ponga el botn TAPE 2 MONITOR en OFF. Ponga los botones en las posiciones correctas. (Consulte la seccin COPIADO DE CINTAS.) Consulte el manual de instrucciones de los magnetfonos.

No hay sonido.

No pueden grabarse cintas.

La electricidad esttica y otras interferencias externas, podrn ser causa de un funcionamiento anormal de la unidad. Para reanudar la operacin normal, desactive el interruptor de alimentacin y actvelo nuevamente, o desconecte el cable de alimentacin de CA y luego vuelva a conectarlo.
