Equipping students to impact the world for Christ Do Hard Things

November 5, 2012

Dear Parents, Thank you to the parents who joined our trip to the science museum. It was good to meet with all of you last week. Please sent the portfolio and USB stick back to school by Wednesday, November 7. The students will be bringing home dinosaur cards that need to be cut, colored, and folded in half. They should be returned to school on Friday, November 9. Once they are cut, reading them and comparing the various dinosaurs with your child would be a great activity. We will be using them for various activities in class in the next few weeks. Language arts - This week we will continue to work on strategies in small groups. We will begin practicing short reader's theater plays that are based on folk and fairy tales. Our read-alouds will be either dinosaur stories (giving us another chance to talk about the differences between fiction and nonfiction) or fairy tales. We will be learning about geologists, the layers of the earth, fossils and paleontologists this week in preparation for our research on a dinosaur or paleontologist. Students will be choosing a dinosaur or paleontologist to research in school. They will be creating a visual and an oral presentation to share their learning.

Bible - We finish our unit on Jesus early ministry. The students will work in groups to retell the stories weve been studying. Mathematics - We will be working on subtraction strategies this week. Please encourage your child to practice on IXL or with Subtraction Top It or Name That Number.
