INTRODUCTION TO AutoCAD

AutoCAD (computer aided design) software was organized by Autodesk (U.S.A) in 1982.AutoCAD was used first time in India by Brakes India limited in 1985. CAD skill is an integral part of every engineer profession today. One cannot imagine carrying out any project without CAD tools. Proper usage of these tools improves the overall efficiency and savings in resources. Hence, it is essential for every engineer to acquire multiple skills to contribute and grow with the organization. Engineers from every field are expected to acquire the fundamental knowledge of CAD even if they are not going to produce drawings. We can design and shape the world around with the powerful, flexible features found in AutoCAD software, one of the worlds leading 2D and 3D design software products. STARTING AUTOCAD:-As in any other windows based software, this software too can be started in three ways:Icon You can click the AutoCAD icon which the software has created on your desktop screen.

Program Click at start button, Programs, AutoCAD 2007 group and then AutoCAD 2007.

Windows Explorer Search for AutoCAD.Exe file in the programs directory and AutoCAD sub-directory. Once started it will first show you the AutoCAD copyright page and withdraw it from the screen to give you another screen as shown below. This is called AutoCAD 2007 screen. WHY AUTOCAD FOR DRAFTING?
