INTRODUCTION Joint operation between Pertamina, Talisman, and Pacific Oil & Gas, called as JOB PERTAMINATALISMAN, has been assigned as the operator for development of Jambi Merang Block, which is located in South Sumatra region. The existing fields, Pulau Gading and Sungai Kenawang, have been explored to produce Natural Gas Liquid (NGL) and stabilized condensate, and directly exported as sales products. In order to increase the sales value, the bulk of Natural Gas Liquid stream is stripped into high purity propane and butane, plus condensate (heavier components). The JOB PERTAMINA-TALISMAN agreed to build a typical new fractionation plant which is located in North Geragai Fractionation (NGF) Plant at Jabung Block, owned by Petrochina International Jabung Ltd (PCI). However, during construction phase, NGL from Pulau Gading and Sungai Kenawang could be combined and processed in existing NGF Plant at feed rate maximum equivalent to 250 kilo Tonnes per Annum (kTA) of propane & butane products. The new fractionation, owned by JOB PERTAMINA-TALISMAN, is designed to produce pure propane and butane at combined production rate (propane & butane) of 250 kTA. This document is performed to discuss the simulation results of fractionation NGF-2 with capacity 250 kTA.
2.
PURPOSE The purpose of this document is to: Provide Line Sizing Calculation for new lines at New Fractionation Plant (NGF 2).

LINE SIZING CRITERIA The design criteria are based on maximum allowable fluid velocity and pressure drop along the pipe for 100 ft. The criteria are taken from the Process Design Basis, Document no.:JM3-720-42DBM-4-101-00 Rev. A. 6.1. Liquid Line Sizing
The following line sizing criteria will apply for liquid services. Table 6.1 Line Sizing Criteria for Liquid

Notes : 1. Applicable to liquid to Thermo-syphon Re-boiler and liquid containing dissolved gas. 2. Provide a vertical run of 10 ft minimum from nozzle, at nozzle size, before reducing the size of the line. 3. For non gravity flow lines, not pumped, use pump discharge criteria. 4. For heating medium service line, a velocity of 15 ft/s shall not exceed. In order to avoid erosion corrosion and shall not be less than 5 ft/s to avoid fouling deposit.
6.2.
For gases, final line sizing shall be based on the pressure drop calculations. For tentative line sizing, the following criteria can be used: Table 6.2 Line Sizing Criteria for Gas
Maximum Service Gases: General (1) Pressure (Psig) Velocity (ft/s) P < 290 290 < P < 725 725 < P < 1160 P > 1160 200 160 130 100 V (lb/ft.s ) 10000 10000 10000 10000 10000 (4) (4)

Column Overhead Compressor: Suction Discharge Stripper Vapor Return Kettle Vapor Return
Notes : 1. The above indicated line sizing criteria are valid for continuous operation. The pressure drop in psi/100ft shall be less than 5 % of the absolute static pressure for long headers and 10 % for short header. For intermittent operation, these limits may be exceeded on a case by case basis. 2. Allowable pressure drop between 0.1 and 0.3 psi/100ft 3. Allowable pressure drop between 0.2 and 0.5 psi/100ft. In addition to these criteria, the noise from excessive flowing velocity has also to be considered. 4. Maximum V2 to be comparable with values above. 5. Allowable pressure drop between 0.1 and 0.2 psi/100 ft
6.3
In general, avoiding undesirable flow regimes within the maximum allowable pressure drop are the main objective of two phase flow piping design. Undesirable flow regimes are not limited to slug flow. Slug flow regime may be acceptable of no degradation of system performance occurs. For instance, in higher pressure system (over 100 psig), it is not adversely affected by operating in the slug flow regime; however, the systems must be mechanically supported to operate in this regime. If slug flow regime occurs, minimizing line sizes (maximize velocity) within allowable pressure drop are permitted. The maximum velocity must be less than or equal to the erosional velocity. Empirical Equation: Um Ve
Ve
Where: Um = Mixture velocity (ft/sec) = ULS + UGS ULS = Superficial liquid velocity UGS = Superficial gas velocity Ve = Erosional velocity (ft/sec) C = Empirical constant
