Types of Sensors
Types of Sensors
1.Position Sensors A position sensor is any device that permits position measurement. It can either be an absolute position sensor or a relative one (displacement sensor). Position sensors can be linear, angular, or multi-axis. Some position sensors available today:
2. Linear velocity sensors May play a very important role in the control of any mechanical system motion, or vibration that may be encountered by the mechanical system. There are various types of angular velocity sensors (gyro sensors) depending on the method of operation. The angular velocity sensors are chiefly classified into a mechanical type utilizing the precession of a rotary body, an optical type that utilizes change in the timing of light reception due to the rotation of laser light that is rotated in an enclosure, a fluid type sensing a hot wire temperature representing an injection amount of a sensing gas changing in accordance with the rotation of a casing when the sensing gas is injected to a hot wire in the casing. 3. A proximity sensor is a sensor able to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact.
Capacitive Capacitive displacement sensor Doppler effect (sensor based on effect) Eddy-current
4. A Load Sensor is defined as a transducer that converts an input mechanical force into an electrical output signal. Load Sensors are also commonly known as Load Transducers or Load Cells.
Force Sensor is defined as a transducer that converts an input mechanical force into an electrical output signal.Force Sensors are also commonly known as Force Transducers. 5. A pressure sensor measures pressure, typically of gases or liquids. Pressure is an expression of the force required to stop a fluid from expanding, and is usually stated in terms of force per unit area. A pressure sensor usually acts as a transducer; it generates a signal as a function of the pressure imposed. For the purposes of this article, such a signal is electrical. Absolute pressure sensor Gauge pressure sensor Vacuum pressure sensor Differential pressure sensor Sealed pressure sensor 6. A temperature sensor is a device that gathers data concerning the temperature from a source and converts it to a form that can be understood either by an observer or another device. Temperature sensors come in many different forms and are used for a wide variety of purposes, from simple home use to extremely accurate and precise scientific use. They play a very important role almost everywhere that they are applied; knowing the temperaturehelps people to pick their clothing before a walk outside just as it helps chemists to understand the data collected from a complex chemical reaction. The best known example of a temperature sensor is the mercury-in-glass thermometer.
