REGULATIONS/actualIy"Overregulation": REGU1 Agencies like the FDA, EPA, OSHA and at least 50 others are called "regulatory" agencies because they are empowered to create and enforce rules (regulations) that carry the full force of a law. Agencies must publish all new proposed regulations in the Federal Register at least 30 days before they take effect & they must provide a way for interested parties to comment, offer amendments or to object to the regulation. Congress has a 60 in-session days to review and possibly reject new federal regulations issued by the regulatory agencies. In 1998, the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), the official listing of all regulations, contained a total of 134,723 pages that claimed 19 ft. of shelf space. In 1970, the CFR totaled only 54,834 pages! **A full 78% of the soon-to-be-voted-on Farm Bill simply pays for FOOD STAMPS and nutrition programs. **Small business in the U.S. is literally being suffocated by red tape. "The land of the free"? The truth is that our lives & our businesses are tightly constrained by MILLIONS of rules & regulations. Today there is a "license" for just about every business activity. In fact, in certain areas you need a "degree" & multiple "licenses" before submitting an application for permission to start a business. In order to hire people, the paperwork nightmare gets even worse. Why would anyone still be willing to start a business in the U.S.? The truth is that the business environment in the U.S. is now so incredibly toxic that millions of Americans have simply given up & don't even try to work with the burdensome system anymore. **Example: A U.S. District Court judge slapped a $500 fine on a MA fisherman (R. Eldridge) for untangling a giant whale from his nets and setting it free. What was the crime? According to the court, he was supposed to call state authorities and wait for them to do it. **The FDA is projecting that the food service industry will spend an additional 14 million hours each year comply with new regulations mandating labeling all products sold with calorie counts. **If you attempt to give a tour of our nation's capitol without a license, you could be put in prison for 90 days.

^ JSERGY RECORD under the Obama Administration: If somebody wants to build a coal fired power plant, they can: it's just that it will bankrupt them. Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily sky rocket. President Obama. (Note: These promises have been kept despite the failure of Cap & Trade to pass in Congress.) Operators of coal fired power plants to shut down 175 units, or 8.5% of the Capacity of coal fired generators. Comparisons of drilling permits issued under previous administrations: **Bill Clinton - a 58& increase **George W. Bush - a 116% increase **President Obama - a 36% decrease Shut down drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, but told Brazil we would be their best customer. (Brazil was granted a $2 billion loan guarantee by the International Monetary Fund for offshore drilling.) Gas prices when President Obama took office: $1.83/gal. Currently: over $4.00/gal.

ENERGY RECORD under the Obama Administration:

Stopped Keystone XL Pipeline Project even though the plan had been approved by various regulatory agencies. Nuclear Regulatory Commission just issued a 1 year moratorium on renewal of licensing of existing nuclear power plants & approval of permits for new plants. Shut down the Yucca Mountain project which could have alleviated the concern about storage of nuclear wastes. Funneled billions of $$ in loan guarantees to "green energy" projects to selected companies (cronies), many of whom have gone bankrupt cost the taxpayers billions of $$ (i.e. Solyndra, Evergreen Solar, Inc.) Continuing to fund wind & solar projects which are not competitive economically with conventional sources of power WITHOUT government subsidies. The corresponding rise in utility rates forces consumers to pay for it in 2 ways: a) we pay higher rates for the energy we use; b) as taxpayers we are asked to subsidize the low income households who can no longer afford the high utility rates. JOBS/ECONOMY FACTS Since January, 2009, manufacturing jobs have declined by more than 500,000. (1) 46,670,373 Americans are now on food stamps at an annual cost of $71.8 billion - both are all time records. That's up from "only" 33 million Americans and a cost of $50.4 billion in 2009. (2) The current length of time unemployed is 39 weeks, compared to an average duration of 15 to 20 weeks from 1984-2008. (1) Through August, 2012, we've had 43 straight months of joblessness above 8% and the labor force participation rate fell to 63.5%, the lowest share of Americans (over age 16) in the workforce since September, 1981.
