Goa Sailing Expedition

The sailors will visit uninhabited islands that they can explore, see graceful dolphins and dynamic barracuda in their natural habitat, do snorkeling to see colourful fish, sea cucumbers, and the wonders of the sea bed, sail in the night and learn navigation by the stars and lighthouses, camp out on a remote beach that can be approached only by sea, do rock climbing and rappelling on a sea cliff, learn angling to catch fish, walk along Goa's longest beach, have a bath in the waters of a fresh water spring just meters away from the sea, explore the ramparts of an medieval sea fort, and learn the rudiments of sailing using just the power of the wind. The participants will visit Grande Island, do snorkeling, sail by night to the spectacular Butterfly Beach, which can only be approached by the sea. Navigate by lighthouses and stars. Do rock climbing and rappelling on the seaside cliffs, angling, barbeque and campfire in the night. Watch rare sea birds bathe in the fresh water spring which is just meters from the sea. Dates : -The reporting dates are 12,18,24,30 Dec 2012 and 5 Jan 2013. Duration of Sail will be 6 days. Fees :- Rs.4000/- per participant (YHAI membership compulsory) The fees will cover stay in tented accommodation, food, expert guidance, equipment

and insurance. Payment of fees by Demand Draft only in favour of NATIONAL TREKKING EXPEDITION GOA" payable at Panaji, Goa. Adventure scholarships 50% on registration fee for the handicapped youth. How to Participate : -The strength of each sailing group will be 20. Members desirous of joining the programme may apply on a prescribed Registration Form duly supported by a Medical Certificate, which is attached with the form. Photocopies of the forms are acceptable. The minimum age for participation is 15. Form should be sent along with draft of participation fee. NOTE: Participation in this programme is open ONLY to those members who have completed either trekking or biking expedition in Goa in the earlier years. How to reach the Base Camp:- The base camp for the Sailing expedition is located at Sports Authority Ground, Near Miramar Beach, Panaji, Goa. The nearest railway stations are Thivim (25Kms), Karmali (12 km) and Margao(33km.) State bus service is available. Direct bus service is also available from Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore & Mangalore. Direct trains are available from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Major Cities of India. Cancellation :- In case you are unable to join the Sailing after paying the participation fee, you will get a refund of Rs. 2000/- provided your written request is received directly in the office of Goa State Branch(not by email) atleast 15 Days in advance from the date of your reporting. No refund will however, be admissible if such notice is short of 15 days. What you should bring :- Cotton shirts/T-Shirts, short pants, sun cap, Rubber slippers, torch, water bottle, lunch box, enameled or steel mug or tumbler, plate, spoon, pen-knife, goggles, Sun cream / Lotion, soap, toilet paper, towel, medicines (which you normally use at home) and canvas shoes. Safety :- Extensive and painstaking preparation have gone into the planning of Sailing Expedition. The Organisers and experienced sailors are checking all details and taking every precaution for safety. However the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accidents, illness and any such unforeseen eventualities. Orders from the captain of the boat will be adhered to strictly and instantly. If the participant

desires to join any other activity, they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the Sail and checking out. Certificate :- Participants who successfully complete the Expedition and abide by its discipline will be awarded certificates. Special Casual Leave: -No Special Casual Leave is applicable for sailing expedition. Attention : This is an environment friendly Program. Do not litter any wrapper or spoil the trail in any way. Please ensure eco-friendliness.
USE OF ALCOHOL AND NARCOTICS OF ANY DESCRIPTION ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED DURING THE COURSE OF THE PROGRAMME.

Risk Factors :- This is a high risk adventure programme. The following risk factors can affect the participants: 1 Sunburn : Long exposure to the sun can cause severe sunburn. 2Sea sickness: can cause nausea, dizziness and general lassitude. 3Boom injuries: An unexpected swing of the boom can cause severe bodily injuries, 4Rocks and reefs: The boat could strike mid-sea rocks or reefs and run aground or sink. 5 Any Unforeseen event All the above risk factors can lead to simple / serious injury, temporary / permanent disability. YHAI takes every possible safety precaution and will provide adequate assistance in the above circumstances but cannot be held responsible for any risk mentioned or not mentioned above. Day 2 Sail to Keri Beach, visit Terekhol fort Day 3 Sail to Morji Beach, Famous for turtle nesting Day 4 Sail to Odxel Beach Day 5
