It was said that Jim Rairigh, Treasurer, will be accepting reservations next month, but no cost or menu was mentioned at this meeting. New Business 1. Presidents Survey August was a month to look at the Whidbey Cruzers and find out what the membership thinks about the club, where its going, how to improve, and encourage more participation. President Jim decided to find out. He mailed a survey of questions to the membership of likes and dislikes plus rating certain current events. All the members were asked to fill it out and return it before the September meeting. They were also encouraged to attend the meeting for the survey results and comments. About 80 people answered and 87 attended. Results of one section will be all Im reporting about and that is Club Operations: 1. 86% said they were NOT willing to serve an elected position, 14% said Yes! 2. 75% said they were NOT willing to head a committee, 25% said Yes! 3. 69% said they were willing to serve on a committee, 31% said NO! 4. 65% said they were not willing to organize a event, 35% said YES! You can draw your own conclusions to these results. After Jim went over all the questions and results various comments were made and discussed about cruising long and short, social aspects, getting the cars out to events, Car Shows, Rendezvous, advertise, wear more clothing with logo, greet and meet new members, event planning, no politics, religion, the ages of our members, getting the word out about our club. It mainly came down to more people stepping up and taking an active

part small or large. If you would like to see the results of the survey, percentages YES and NO, etc. contact Jim Haddon or Deanna Rogers for a copy. Im sorry I could not give you a play by play it would have been very, very, very long. 2. Nominating Committee Bill Morrow reported the committee has started to recruit candidates for next year. Treasurer Jim Rairigh will not run again. Joan Reeves will run again for Secretary. They are looking for nominees to run for President, Vice President and Treasurer. Need members to step up and make a difference for next year. Please contact Bill Morrow, Bruce Biddle, Bob McConchie or Don (Sully) Sullivan if interested, I know they will ask you. 50/50 Drawings Bucket Dude was Jim Croft Tonight there were no door prize drawings, only money drawings. Three money drawings for $25.00 each, winners were: Rudy Parhaniemi, Dave Graham, and Charles Terpenning. FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER 1. Letter from Scott Dated 8/26/2012 Hello fellow Cruzers, Again, I hope this finds everyone in good health and enjoying the last few weeks of summer. I recently received several care packages from my loving Cruzer friends and as before, I say a big THANK YOU! Virginia, your cookies were a big hit, everyone who got one enjoyed it and wanted me to pass on their thanks. The box filled with treats and snacks was also greatly appreciated. Things here are going good, the weather is starting to cool down a bit and working outside is not too bad. Our underground cable install job is almost done and we should have it completed in a week or two, the down side to that is our team has been notified that we will most likely be sent back into Afghanistan to help finish some smaller jobs before our rotations is done, with that said, I'm not sure what my new address will be or what type of internet access I will have so I will try to keep in touch with everyone the best I can. Rumor has it we will be heading back to the states on October 17th or 18th leaving out of Al Udeid Air base in Qatar, but until that planes takes off I'm not going to believe it. Once we are back we get to take 30 days worth of leave and R & R so I will not be going back to work for the WSP until the end of November, hate to say it but I have not missed the daily grind of working patrol and chasing trucks around. The Air Guard unit (215th EIS) I am currently assigned to in Everett is in the process of closing so I have accepted a new guard job with the 194th Security Forces Squadron at Camp Murray (McCord AFB) as a firearms instructor/Armor and will report to them after the

first of the year, so that should be an exciting change, however the down side is at some point I will have to attend approximately six months worth of training in San Antonio and always a possibility of being deployed back to a combat zone to work security. Oh-well I'll take it one step at a time. Again, thank you for the care packages, your thoughts and prayers, its great having such good friends and support back home. Ill keep in touch. Scott. PS. President Jim, I was able to Skype with Frankie the other night and we answered the questions on the survey you sent out, I think she is going to attend the Sept. meeting and bring it with her to give to you. Thanks for sending out such a well written survey, I feel very strongly that we have a great club and getting everyone's input is very important. Thanks Scott FYI: Scotts email address: [email protected] A new address will be forthcoming from Frankie when she gets it from Scott. 2. A family pass for Skagit Speedway was presented to George Higley because he was the first one who said he wanted it when offered to the membership. 3. The North Whidbey Car Show presented the Whidbey Cruzers with a large participation trophy for all the continuous years we have participated, helped, and supported the car show.
