Rahab?

Job 26:12 He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud (Rahab). Job 26:13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent. Psa 87:4 I will mention Rahab and Babylon to those who know me; behold, Philistia and Tyre with Ethiopia; this man was born there. Psa 89:10 You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one slain; You have scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm. Isa 51:9 Awake! Awake! Arm of Jehovah, put on strength. Awake, as in days of old, everlasting generations. Was it not You cutting in pieces Rahab, and piercing the sea monster? Isa 51:10 Was it not You drying up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who set the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass? Isa 51:11 Yea, the ransomed of Jehovah shall return and come to Zion with singing, and everlasting joy shall be on their head; gladness and joy shall overtake them; sorrow and sighing shall flee. Job 9:13 God will not withdraw His anger; the helpers of pride stoop under Him. Job 26:12 With His power He quiets the sea (yam), and by His understanding He shatters pride.

H7293 rahab BDB Definition: 1) pride, blusterer 1a) storm, arrogance (but only as names) 1a1) mythical sea monster 1a2) emblematic name of Egypt Part of Speech: noun masculine A Related Word by BDB/Strongs Number: from H7292, bluster(-er) . , which here also is translated by the lxx , has been discussed already on Job_9:13. It is not meant of the turbulence of the sea, to which is not appropriate, but of a sea monster, which, like the crocodile and the dragon, are become an emblem of Pharaoh and his power, as Isa_51:9. Without doubt, denotes a demoniacal monster, like the demons that shall be destroyed at the end of the world, one of which is called by the Persians akomano, evil thought, another taromaiti, pride. This view is supported by Job_26:13, where one is not at liberty to determine the meaning by Isa_51:9, and to understand , like in that passage, of Egypt.
Leviathan Lev-joined to tan-serpent...joined serpent Job 41:1 Can you draw out the leviathan with a hook, or hold down his tongue with a cord? Psa 74:12 For God is my King of old, who works salvation in the midst of the land. Psa 74:13 You broke the sea by Your strength; You burst the heads of sea-monsters in the waters. Psa 74:14 You cracked open the heads of leviathan; You gave him to be food for

the people of the wilderness. Psa 104:25 This is the sea, great and wide on both hands; there are creeping things even without number; living things, small and great. Psa 104:26 There the ships go; You formed this great sea-animal to play in it. Isa 27:1 In that day Jehovah shall visit the sea monster, the darting serpent, with His great and fierce and strong sword; even on the sea monster, the twisting serpent; and He shall slay the monster that is in the sea. Job 3:7 Behold, let that night be barren; let no joyful voice come in it. Job 3:8 Let those curse it who curse the day, those ready to stir up Leviathan. Job 3:9 Let the stars of its twilight be dark; let it look for light, but have none, let it wait for eyelids of the dawn.

Those who curse days are magicians who know how to change days into dies infausti by their incantations. According to vulgar superstition, from which the imagery of Job_3:8 is borrowed, there was a special art of exciting the dragon, which is the enemy of sun and moon, against them both, so that, by its devouring them, total darkness prevails. The dragon is called in Hindu rahu; the Chinese, and also the natives of Algeria, even at the present day make a wild tumult with drums and copper vessels when an eclipse of the sun or moon occurs, until the dragon will release his prey. (Note: On the dragon rhu, that swallows up sun and moon, vid., Pott, in the Hallische Lit. Zeitschr. 1849, No. 199; on the custom of the Chinese, Kuffer, Das chinesische Volk, S. 123. A similar custom among the natives of Algeria I have read of in a newspaper (1856). Moreover, the clouds which conceal the sky the Indians represent as a serpent. It is ahi, the cloud-serpent, which Indra chases away when he divides the clouds with his lightning. Vid., Westergaard in Weber's Indischer Zeitschr. 1855, S. 417.) Job wishes that this monster may swallow up the sun of his birth-day.
Leviathan Ourobos Yam In Genesis 36 verse 24 and odd addition of information is given about Anah. He is said to have found mules (yam) in the wilderness. The word for mules is yam which is translated in the Targum as terror. In the book of Jasher chapter 36 verse 29-35 it is told of 120 great and terrible animals that came out from the wilderness at the other side of the sea and came to the place where the mules were. These animals were in the shape of men from the middle down and in the shape of different beasts from the middle up. The animals attacked Anah so he fled to the city and related to his sons and brothers what happened to him. Hab 3:8 Did Jehovah burn against rivers? Or was Your anger against the rivers? Or Your fury against the sea? For You ride on horses; Your chariots of salvation. In the JPS footnotes on this verse it is written "Neharim=floods & Yam=Sea were marine monsters vanquished by the LORD in hoary antiquity. On Yam see Ps 74:13; Job 7:12 Being called both Yam & Nahar figures in early Canaanite literature. Psa 74:13 You broke the sea (yam) by Your strength; You burst the heads of seamonsters (tanin) in the waters. Psa 74:14 You cracked open the heads of leviathan; You gave him to be food for the people of the wilderness. Job 7:12 Am I a sea (yam), or a sea-monster (tanin), that You set a watch over me? Job 26:12 With His power He quiets the sea (yam), and by His understanding He shatters pride (rahab).

Job 41:1 Can you draw out the leviathan with a hook, or hold down his tongue with a cord? Job 41:2 Can you put a reed rope into his nose, or pierce his jaw with a thorn? Job 41:3 Will he multiply pleas for help to you; or will he speak soft words to you? Job 41:4 Will he cut a covenant with you; will you take him for a slave forever? Job 41:5 Will you play with him as with a bird; or will you tie him up for your maidens? Job 41:6 Shall your partners bargain over him; shall they divide him among the merchants? Job 41:7 Can you fill his skin with barbs, or his head with fishing spears? Job 41:8 Put your hand on him; remember the battle; you will not do it again! Job 41:9 Behold, his hope has been made false; will he not be cast down at the sight of him? Job 41:10 None is so fierce as to dare to stir him up. Who then is able to stand before Me? Job 41:11 Who has gone before Me that I should repay? All under the heavens, it is Mine! Job 41:12 I will not keep silent as to his limbs, or the matter of his powers, or the grace of his frame. Job 41:13 Who can take off the face of his covering; who can come with his double bridle? Job 41:14 Who can pry open the doors of his face? Terror is all around his teeth. Job 41:15 The rows of shields are his pride, shut up with a tight seal; Job 41:16 one is so near to another that no air can come between them; Job 41:17 they are joined to one another; they clasp each other, so that they cannot be separated. Job 41:18 His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are as the eyelids of the dawn. Job 41:19 Out of his mouth go burning torches; sparks of fire fly out. Job 41:20 Smoke goes out of his nostrils like a boiling pot fired by reeds. Job 41:21 His breath kindles coals and the flame goes out from his mouth. Job 41:22 Strength abides in his neck and terror dances before him. Job 41:23 The folds of flesh cleave together, cast firm on him; he cannot be moved. Job 41:24 His heart is cast hard as a stone, even cast hard as a piece of a lower millstone. Job 41:25 The mighty are afraid from his arising; from the crashings they miss the way. Job 41:26 The sword overtakes him, but will not hold firm, nor the spear, the dart, or the javelin. Job 41:27 He counts iron as straw, bronze as rotten wood. Job 41:28 A son of a bow cannot make him flee; slingstones are turned to stubble by him; Job 41:29 darts are counted as stubble; he laughs at the shaking of a javelin. Job 41:30 Points of potsherds are under him; he spreads sharp marks on the mire. Job 41:31 He makes the deep boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a pot of ointment; Job 41:32 he makes a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be grayheaded. Job 41:33 There is nothing like him on earth, one made without fear. Job 41:34 He beholds all high things; he is king over all the sons of pride. Eze 28:2 Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, So says the Lord Jehovah, Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, in the heart of the seas; yet you are a man, and not God, though you give your heart as the heart of gods.

Eze 28:3 Behold, you are wiser than Daniel. Every one of the secret things are not hidden to you. Eze 28:4 With your wisdom and with your understanding you have made riches for yourself, and have worked gold and silver into your treasuries. Eze 28:5 By your great wisdom, by your trade you have multiplied your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches. Eze 28:6 So the Lord Jehovah says this: Because you have given your heart as the heart of gods, Eze 28:7 behold, so I will bring on you awesome strangers of the nations. And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and will defile your splendor. Eze 28:8 They will cause you to go down to the Pit, and you shall die the deaths of the slain in the heart of the seas. Eze 28:9 Saying, do you say, I am of the gods before him who strikes you? But you are a man, and not God, in the hands of him who pierces you. Eze 28:10 You shall die the deaths of the uncircumcised, by the hand of strangers. For I have spoken, says the Lord Jehovah. Eze 28:11 And the Word of Jehovah was to me, saying, Eze 28:12 Son of man, lift up a lament over the king of Tyre, and say to him, So says the Lord Jehovah: You seal the measure, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. Eze 28:13 You have been in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering; the ruby, the topaz, and the jasper, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the turquoise, and the carbuncle, and gold; the workmanship of your tambourines and of your flutes in you. In the day you were created, they were prepared. Eze 28:14 You were the anointed cherub that covers, and I had put you in the holy heights of God, where you were. You walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Eze 28:15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, until iniquity was found in you. Eze 28:16 By the multitude of your trade, they filled your midst with violence, and you sinned. So I cast you defiled from the height of God, and I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from among the stones of fire. Eze 28:17 Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. I have cast you to the ground. I will put you before kings, that they may see you. Eze 28:18 By the host of your iniquities, by the iniquity of your trade, you have defiled your holy places. So I brought a fire from your midst and it shall devour you, and I will give you for ashes on the earth in the sight of all who see you. Eze 28:19 All who know you among the peoples shall be appalled at you. You shall be terrors, and you will not be forever. Eze 28:20 And the Word of Jehovah was to me, saying, Eze 28:21 Son of man, set your face against Sidon and prophesy against her, Eze 28:22 and say, So says the Lord Jehovah, Behold, I am against you, O Sidon, and I will be glorified in your midst. And they shall know that I am Jehovah when I have done judgments in her and shall be sanctified by her. Eze 28:23 And I will send a plague into her, and blood into her streets. And the slain will fall in her midst by the sword, on her from all around. And they shall know that I am Jehovah. Eze 28:24 And there will not be a pricking brier or a painful thorn to the house of Israel any more from all who surround them, those who hate them. And they shall know that I am the Lord Jehovah. Eze 28:25 So says the Lord Jehovah: When I have gathered the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are dispersed, and have been sanctified in them in the sight of the nations, then they shall dwell on their land which I have given to

My servant Jacob. Eze 28:26 And they shall dwell in it securely and shall build houses and plant vineyards. Yes, they shall dwell securely, when I have done judgments on all those who hate them round about them. And they shall know that I am Jehovah their God. The King of Tyre is also the King of Tsidon

Sidon (2) si don ( ,cidhon; , Sidon; the King James Version, Sidon and Zidon; the Revised Version (British and American) SIDON only):

1. Location and Distinction: One of the oldest Phoenician cities, situated on a narrow plain between the range of Lebanon and the sea, in latitude 33 degrees 34 minutes nearly. The plain is well watered and fertile, about 10 miles long, extending from a little North of Sarepta to the Bostrenus (Nahr el-Auly). The ancient city was situated near the northern end of the plain, surrounded with a strong wall. It possessed two harbors, the northern one about 500 yds. long by 200 wide, well protected by little islets and a breakwater, and a southern about 600 by 400 yards, surrounded on three sides by land, but open to the West, and thus exposed in bad weather. The date of the founding of the city is unknown, but we find it mentioned in the Tell el-Amarna Letters in the 14th century BC, and in Gen_10:19 it is the chief city of the Canaanites, and Joshua (Jos_11:8) calls it Great Sidon. It led all the Phoenician cities in its early development of maritime affairs, its sailors being the first to launch out into the open sea out of sight of land and to sail by night, guiding themselves by the stars. They were the first to come into contact with the Greeks and we find the mention of them several times in Homer, while other Phoenician towns are not noticed. Sidon became early distinguished for its manufactures and the skill of its artisans, such as beautiful metal-work in silver and bronze and textile fabrics embroidered and dyed with the famous purple dye which became known as Tyrian, but which was earlier produced at Sidon. Notices of these choice articles are found in Homer, both in the Iliad and the Odyssey. Sidon had a monarchical form of government, as did all the Phoenician towns, but it also held a sort of hegemony over those to the

South as far as the limit of Phoenicia. It likewise made one attempt to establish an inland colony at Laish or Dan, near the headwaters of the Jordan, but this ended in disaster (Jdg_18:7, Jdg_18:27, Jdg_18:28). The attempt was not renewed, but many colonies were established oversea. Citium, in Cyprus, was one of the earliest. Sidon comes into view several times in the New Testament; first when Christ passed into the borders of Tyre and Sidon and healed the daughter of the Syro-phoenician woman (Mar_7:2430);
Dragon of the Sea..Pharoah Exo 9:16 And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. Psa 74:12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. Psa 74:13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. Psa 74:14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. Eze 29:3 Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself. Eze 32:2 Son of man, lift up a lament over Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and say to him, You were like a young lion of the nations, and you were like the monster in the seas. And you burst forth in your rivers and stirred up the waters with your feet and fouled their rivers. Isa 27:1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. Pharaoh dealt proudly against Israel Neh 9:10 And You gave signs and wonders on Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of the land. For You knew that they were seething against them. And You made a name for Yourself, as it is this day.

Isa 10:24 So the Lord Jehovah of Hosts says this: Oh My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear Assyria. He shall strike you with the rod, and he shall lift up his staff against you in the way of Egypt. Isa 10:25 But yet a little while, and the fury is finished; and My anger shall be over their destruction. Isa 10:26 And Jehovah of Hosts shall stir up a whip on him, according to the striking of Midian at the rock Oreb (PSALM 83); and as His rod was on the sea, and He lifted it up in the way of Egypt. Isa 10:27 And it shall be in that day, his burden shall turn away from on your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. Isa 52:4 For so says the Lord Jehovah: My people went down to Egypt at the first, to reside there, and without cause Assyria oppressed him. Pharoah did not acknowledge YHWH Exo 5:2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

Pharoah did not let Israel keep the Feasts/Sabbaths Exo 5:1 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. Exo 5:2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go. Exo 5:3 And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword. Exo 5:4 And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens. Exo 5:5 And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest (shabbat) from their burdens. According to the book of Jasher Pharoah gets his name from being a tax collector Jasher 14:27 And the king answered and said to Rikayon, Thy name shall no more be called Rikayon but Pharaoh shall be thy name, since thou didst exact a tax from the dead; and he called his name Pharaoh. Dan 11:20 And one who passes over a tax exacter shall stand in his place, for the glory of the kingdom. But within a few days he will be shattered, but not in anger and not in battle. The adversary is the one who showed Adam and Chavvah that they were naked in the Garden and is the one that teaches mankind he is "loose, free" from the Torah. However, this "freedom" from the Torah only leads to bondage to mankind, hence the connection to taxes and slavery.

Pharoh the wicked, the hater and adversary, did say, I will follow after the people of the sons of Israel, and will lay waste their camp on the bank of the sea: I will set war in array against them, and kill them, small and great, despoil them of much spoil, bring them back into great captivity, and divide their substance among my people who make war: and when my soul is satisfied with the blood of their slain, I will sheathe my sword, having, destroyed them with my right hand.

Pha'raoh. The common title of the native kings of Egypt in the Bible, corresponding to P-ra or Ph-ra, "the sun", of the hieroglyphics. Brugsch, Ebers and other modern Egyptologists define it to mean, "the great house", which would correspond to our, "the Sublime Porte."

Mareshah ma-re sha ( ,mareshah; Septuagint: Codex Vaticanus , Bathesar; Codex Alexandrinus , Maresa): A town in the Shephelah of Judah named with Keilah and Achzib (Jos_15:44). It occupied such a position that Rehoboam thought well to fortify it for the protection of Jerusalem (2Ch_11:8). In the valley of Zephathah at

Mareshah, Asa overwhelmed Zerah the Ethiopian and his army, pursuing them as far as Gezer (2Ch_14:9 ff). From Mareshah came Eliezer the prophet who denounced disaster upon the commercial copartnery of Jehoshaphat and Ahaziah (2Ch_20:37). The place is mentioned in Mic (2Ch_1:15). Mareshah was plundered and burned by Judas Maccabeus (Ant., XII, viii, 6; 1 Macc 5:66 the Revised Version margin). Hither Gorgias escaped, having been rescued from the hands of Dositheus by a Thracian horseman (2 Macc 12:35). It was taken by John Hyrcanus, who allowed the inhabitants to remain on condition that they adopt circumcision and submit to the Jewish law. This they did; and later John avenged an injustice done to Mareshah by the Samaritans. It is then described as a colony of Jews (Ant., XIII, ix, 1; x, 2). The city was treated with favor by Pompey (XIV, iv, 4). When the Parthians invaded Judea in support of Antigonus they demolished Mareshah (xiii, 9). According to Eusebius, Onomasticon, Mareshah was 2 Roman miles from Eleutheropolis (Beit Jibrn). Until recently it was thought that Khirbet Mirash, where the old name lingers, not far Southwest of Beit Jibrn, represented the ancient city. The work of Dr. Bliss, however (Excavations in Palestine, PEF), shows that it must be located at Tell Sandahannah, about a mile South of Beit Jibrn. A series of remarkable tombs was discovered here. From 1Ch_2:42 we may perhaps gather that Hebron was colonized by the men of Mareshah. Antiquities of the Jews Book 13 Chapter 9 Section 1 1. BUT when Hyrcanus heard of the death of Antiochus, he presently made an expedition against the cities of Syria, hoping to find them destitute of fighting men, and of such as were able to defend them. However, it was not till the sixth month that he took Medaba, and that not without the greatest distress of his army. After this he took Samega, and the neighboring places; and besides these, Shechem and Gerizzim, and the nation of the Cutheans, who dwelt at the temple which resembled that temple which was at Jerusalem, and which Alexander permitted Sanballat, the general of his army, to build for the sake of Manasseh, who was son-in-law to Jaddua the high priest, as we have formerly related; which temple was now deserted two hundred years after it was built. Hyrcanus took also Dora and Marissa, cities of Idumea, and subdued all the Idumeans; and permitted them to stay in that country, if they would circumcise their genitals, and make use of the laws of the Jews; and they were so desirous of living in the country of their forefathers, that they submitted to the use of circumcision, (25) and of the rest of the Jewish ways of living; at which time therefore this befell them, that they were hereafter no other than Jews. Herod West of the Arabah the country they occupied came to be known by the Greek name Idumaea, and the people as Idumeans. Hebron, their chief city, was taken by Judas Maccabeus in 165 bc (1 Macc 4:29, 61; 5:65). In 126 bc the country was subdued by John Hyrcanus, who compelled the people to become Jews and to submit to circumcision. Antipater, governor of Idumaea, was made procurator of Judea, Samaria and Galilee by Julius Caesar. He paved the way to the throne for his son Herod the Great. With the fall of Judah under the Romans, Idumaea disappears from history. Herod died of a similiar disease as Antiochus Epiphanes

Act 12:23 And instantly an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give the glory to God. And having been eaten by worms, his soul went out. 2Ma 9:8 And thus he that a little afore thought he might command the waves of the sea, (so proud was he beyond the condition of man) and weigh the high mountains in a balance, was now cast on the ground, and carried in an horselitter, shewing forth unto all the manifest power of God. 2Ma 9:9 So that the worms rose up out of the body of this wicked man, and whiles he lived in sorrow and pain, his flesh fell away, and the filthiness of his smell was noisome to all his army. 2Ma 9:10 And the man, that thought a little afore he could reach to the stars of heaven, no man could endure to carry for his intolerable stink. The Jewish Encyclopedia tells us that "Edom is modern Jewry". This witness from the 1905 edition records the connection between modern-day Jews and the race of Edom: "Some anthropologists are inclined to associate the racial origins of the Jews, not with the Semites, whose language they adopted, but with the Armenians and Hittites of Mesopotamia, whose broad skulls and curved noses they appear to have inherited" (The Jewish Encyclopedia, (1905), Vol. X, p 284). The Herodians were not of Jewish stock. Herod the Great encouraged the circulation of the legend of the family descent from an illustrious Babylonian Jew (Ant., XIV, i, 3),

but it has no historic basis. It is true the Idumeans were at that time nominal Jews, since they were subdued by John Hyrcanus in 125 bc, and embodied in the Asmonean kingdom through an enforced circumcision, but the old national antagonism remained (Gen_27:41).

Jannes =he vexed Jambres=foamy healer

In the Targumic literature Mambres occurs as a variant reading instead of Jambres. It is thought that Jambres is derived from an Aramaic root, meaning to oppose, the participle of which would be Mambres. The meaning of either form is he who opposes. Jannes is perhaps a corruption of Ioannes or Iohannes (John). Numenius, a Pythagorean (in Eusebius, Proep. Evang., 9:8) wrote, "Jannes and Jannes were sacred scribes, deemed inferior to none in magic." Jannes and Jambres, one or both, are also mentioned by Pliny (23-79 ad), by Apuleius (circa 130 ad), both of whom speak of Moses and Jannes as famous magicians of antiquity. The Pythagorean philosopher Numenius (2nd century ad) speaks of Jannes and Jambres as Egyptian hierogrammateis, or sacred scribes. enchantments H3858 lahat BDB Definition: 1) flame (of an angelic sword) Part of Speech: noun masculine A Related Word by BDB/Strongs Number: from H3857 enchantments, 1

The rabbis of the Mishnah are known as Tannaim (sing. Tanna .) Gemara In the three centuries following the redaction of the Mishnah, rabbis throughout Israel and Babylonia analyzed, debated and discussed that work. These discussions form the Gemara ( .)Gemara means completion (from the Hebrew gamar " :to complete") or "learning"( from the Aramaic: "to study"). The Gemara mainly focuses on elucidating and elaborating the opinions of the Tannaim. The rabbis of the Gemara are known as Amoraim (sing. Amora .)

The core of this text developed in the mid-3rd century as a critique and commentary of the Mishnah, although subsequent additions and editing went on for some time afterwards.

"The Jewish sages whose statements are quoted in the Mishnah are known as Tanna'im* (singular: 'Tanna'), derived from the Aramaic root related to the Hebrew 'ShNH.' The era in which the Mishnah was developed is therefore referred to as the 'Tanna'itic' era."

Who are the Tanna'im?

The Jewish sages referred to as Tanna'im are, in fact, the high initiates of Kabbalah. The Theosophical Glossary of H.P. Blavatsky shows the correlation between Tanaim and Kabbalah:

"TANAIM (Heb.). Jewish Initiates, very learned Kabbalists in ancient times. The Talmud contains sundry legends about them and gives the chief names of them.

"KABALIST. From Q B L H, Kabalah, an unwritten or oral tradition. The kabalist is a student of 'secret science,' one who interprets hidden meaning of the Scriptures with the help of the symbolical Kabala, and explains the real one by these means. The TANAIM were the first kabalists among the Jews; they appeared at Jerusalem about the beginning of the third century before the Christian Era... This secret doctrine is identical with that of the Chaldeans, and includes at the same time much of the Persian wisdom, or 'magic'. (caps added)

"KABALAH (Heb.) The hidden wisdom of the Hebrew Rabbis of the middle ages derived from the secret doctrines concerning divine things and cosmogony, which were combined into a theology after the time of the captivity of the Jews in Babylon. All the works that fall under the esoteric category are termed Kabbalistic..."

Jannes Jambres, Moshe=Pharisees versus Yahshua=Two beasts versus 2 Witnesses?

Jannes and Jambres, one or both, are also mentioned by Pliny (23-79 ad), by Apuleius (circa 130 ad), both of whom speak of Moses and Jannes as famous magicians of antiquity. The Pythagorean philosopher Numenius (2nd century ad) speaks of Jannes and Jambres as Egyptian hierogrammateis, or sacred scribes.

According to Secret Societies and Subversive Movements, the Talmud and the Kabbalah were derived from Jewish oral traditions which were accorded the same authority of the Mosaic Law:

"According to Fabre d'Olivet, Moses, who 'was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians' drew from the Egyptian mysteries a part of the oral tradition which was handed down through the leaders of the Israelites...That such an oral tradition, distinct from the written word embodied in the Pentateuch, did descend from Moses and that it was later committed to writing in the Talmud and the Cabala is the opinion of many Jewish writers. [According to the Jewish view God had given Moses on Mt. Sinai alike the oral and the written Law, that is, the Law with all its interpretations and applications --Alfred Edersheim]" (Omni Publications, 1964, p.6.) The Encarta Concise Encyclopedia entry "Cabala" identifies its origins in Spain and France:

"Cabala, generically, Jewish mysticism in all its forms; specifically, the esoteric theosophy that crystallized in 13th-century Spain and Provence, France, around Sefer HaZohar (The Book of Splendor), referred to as the Zohar. Cabala's roots are in Hellenistic astral mysticism, in which the adept, through meditation and the use of magic formulas, journeys ecstatically through and beyond the seven astral spheres. Medieval Spanish Cabala, the most important form of Jewish mysticism, is more concerned with esoteric knowledge about the nature of the divine world and its hidden connections with the world of creation.
