Lesson Plan Flowol
Valli Class/Set: 7R, 7BC Date:06/03/12, 07/03/12 Time/Period: 1&2 and 7&8 Number of pupils: 30 Subject: Flowol Introduction Learning Objectives (WALT): Able to understand the importance of writing algorithm - Able to design flow chart to represent instructions for carrying out the task. Scheme of Work: Level:5/6
Room: CC
Intended Learning Outcomes (WILF): All must be able to: understand what is programming: An ordered set of instructions is called a sequence of instructions. Most should be able to: use a flow chart to represent instructions for carrying out the task. Some could: learn how to break a task down into smaller parts using Subroutine Keywords: Automatic System, Control System, programming, flow chart, Flowol, Subroutine, start, stop, process, decision, input, output, on, off, day, night, light house, traffic light, horn. Reference to cross-curriculum issues (Literacy, Numeracy, Citizenship, PSHE, ECM..): Entry ( 2.5 mins) Starter (5 mins): Class Brainstorm: Name an Automatic System that uses Microprocessors Main ( 55 mins): Explain WILF Automatic System: Resources

What are the advantages and disadvantages of human and automatic crossing controls outside a school? (a) Advantages of Automatic System It is always there, day and night. It doesnt need anyone to oversee it. It keeps watch all the time and stays alert. School crossing patrol officers might accidentally be late for work and are only there at certain times of day. A human might be distracted or lose attention momentarily. (b) Advantages of Human System A person can make quick decisions based on what they hear or see. A person would not allow children to cross before the traffic has stopped. A pelican crossing cant stop cars from going through on red.

Step 8
Task of the day 1: Create flow chart for traffic light system using Flowol Light House System
Subroutine When a section of flowchart needs to be repeated Use a subroutine and a separate main routine to command this subroutine. The subroutine however, must be defined and drawn first, so it can be selected and included in the main routine. In the lighthouse example we can use a subroutine to give the flashing light a signature. Also applicable for the horn (on & off)
Task of the day 2: Create flow chart for light house system using Flowol Plenary ( 10 mins): AFL Exit ( 2.5 mins) Differentiation (related to Learning Outcomes) G & T: Help pupils finding difficulties in completing the flow chart. Homework return, feedback and setting: Flowol flow chart design to be completed and uploaded to VLE for marking. Assessment including WILF: Questioning & Discussion (AfL) 1) Flowol experience - feedback? 2) What have you learnt from todays lesson? Evaluation of the lesson: Good Informal observations made by curriculum mentor [x]: Good
