Odd Even Functions Foldable

The document discusses even and odd functions. An odd function satisfies f(-x) = -f(x), while an even function satisfies f(-x) = f(x). The graph of an even function is symmetrical about the y-axis, while the graph of an odd function is an mirror image in the origin between the portions where x is greater than or less than 0.

f (x) = f (x) e.g.

f (x) = f (x) e.g. if f (x) = x 2 then f (x) = (x)2 = x2 = f (x) and so f is even

then f (x) = (x)3 = x 3 = f (x) and so f is odd

The portion of the graph f for x 0 is a mirror image in the origin of the portion for which x 0.

The graphs of even functions are symmetrical about the y-axis.
