Introduction
This publication contains information about IBM Informix Genero.

System Requirements
The client system must meet system requirements. For detailed information, please refer to IBM Informix Genero: System Requirements.
Windows systems
v Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7. Having the latest Service Pack installed may be required.
Linux systems
v X11 v libc version 2.4 v libstdc++ version 6 v kde's xdg-open tool if you want the standard function call "shellexec" to work.
Mac systems
v Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 v PowerPC and MacIntel are supported.
Operating systems
v You must install the GDC package that corresponds to the operating system that you use. Each of the packages is identified by an operating system code (hpx1100, w32vc71, and so on).
Prerequisites
Genero Desktop Client 2.3x will work only with Genero Runtime Systems 2.3x, plus 2.2x and 2.1x for backward compatibility. It is not supported with Genero Runtime Systems 2.0x and 1.3x and is not compatible with Four Js BDS Runtime System.

4. If you accept the agreement, check 'I accept the terms in the License Agreement' and click 'Next' to continue. 5. Select the folder in which you want to install GDC. 6. Select the StartMenu folder in which GDC shortcuts will be set. 7. GDC shortcuts can be stored as a .gdc file. You can associate this extension with this GDC, so that you can start GDC with this file by double-clicking the .gdc file in Explorer. You can enable or disable the file associations. 8. GDC is now ready to be installed. It requires Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Runtime. If the runtime is not available on your system, it will be installed. Click "Install" to begin the installation. 9. All files will be copied. The installation is now complete. You can now run the GDC.
MSI Installer
Beginning with version 2.21, the Genero Desktop Client installer uses MSI technology. You can extract the .msi file from the .exe file using the /x option:
c:\fjs-gdc-2.21.01-build2471-w32vc90.exe /x
Silent (un)installations
Install and Uninstall in silent mode on Microsoft Windows platforms
To install and uninstall Genero Desktop Client (GDC) in silent mode, you can use the msiexec command line utility. The msiexec utility provides the means to install, modify, and perform operations on Windows Installer from the command line. The following options for msiexec are the most common relating to installation and uninstallation. Enter msiexec from the DOS command prompt to view the complete list of available options. msiexec /qn - Quiet mode with no UI /i fjs-gdc-version-windowsOStype.msi - Install the specified msi package /x fjs-gdc-version-windowsOStype.msi - Uninstall the specified msi package /log logfile - Log to the specified log file
Arguments
You can pass arguments to the msi installer on the command line:
Argument PRODUCTDIR=your_gdcdir_path GDCDIR=your_gdcdir_path Description The path where GDC will be installed. It is an alias of GDCDIR variable. The path where the GDC will be installed. It is an alias of the PRODUCTDIR variable.
