The Negative Effects of Television in Our Daily Life
Assalamualaikum Wr.Wb. Let us say Alhamdulillahirabbilalamin to the Almighty Allah SWT, let us send our salaam and shalawat to our beloved prophet Muhammad SAW. Before I deliver my speech, I would like to say thank you very much for the MC who has given me chance to join this English speech contest. Brothers and sisters I would like to deliver my speech entitled: The Negative Effects of Television in our Life. Television is a popular form of communication medium in any household. It has also become an important part in our daily life. It cannot be denied that television from which we get information and entertainments, has contributed to the improvement of our society. But, on the contrary, I think television tends to have a tremendous influence on its viewers. Ladies and gentlemen Instead of its advantages, the presence of television also affects negatively on our society. First, based on the recent research, people of all ages use this media to entertain themselves for an average of five hours a day. The content exposure of TV, of course, will influence the viewers, not only their thinking but also attitudes. This can be seen from the fact that many criminalities are inspired from the scene of TV. Second, people can be adversely influenced by constant watching TV. They less participate in physical and social activities, spend less time reading and working, and see a work of violence that can affect their feeling of security. The last, commercial advertisements on TV can be a kind of brain washing. Physicologically, constant show of advertisements will create peoples images about one product. No wonder people are easier to remember the motto or slogan of an advertisement than to retrieve information that they have learned. The participants and audiences Based on my explanation above, it is clear that TV will be a kind of monster if we cannot manage it well. It is very important for us to handle and manage the presence of television in order to overcome the negative effects of television, especially for children and young generation. That is my speech. I hope it will be useful for us. Thank you very much for your attention. Wassalamualaikum Wr.Wb
Masterpiece
Gentlemen, teachers and parents of the class of 2011, Good Morning. If there was one thing that I would leave with this batch of people it would this: be an artist. When I say this, I dont mean it in the literal sense but instead by being one who improves his life just like how a real artist would on his masterpiece. An artist is one who constantly grows as a person in numerous aspects in his life. This growth is reflected upon his artwork. As he grows, his ability to create something from his mind grows too. Whenever he looks at his masterpiece, he may feel that there is always something, which he can improve on. As time passes, the artist matures and new methods and techniques open to him. Because of this, he grasps this feeling of dissatisfaction with his current work; and as a result, some parts of the old image are covered with a new coat of paint, which improves it. After sometime, the painter may look at the portrait and again thinks of what he can do to improve his masterpiece. But before starting on his masterpiece, he first sketches what he wants on the masterpiece. And today, we artists are at that point where we are ending the stages of sketching our ideas unto the board, and now beginning the stage where we paint over it. At this point, I would like to congratulate the batch of 2011 for attaining knowledge that can only be learned here in Xavier. But aside from the graduating batch, I would also like to thank the teachers, parents and the friends who have helped us finish this long journey, this journey that is sometimes called the best years of life. However, the race isnt done yet, the masterpiece isnt finished yet and there are still indefinite things to do with it. And in the succeeding years this is the challenge to everyone. Whats next? What do we do now with our lives? The answer I tell you lies within you. For each person, this goal varies for we have varying strengths and difficulties. At the end of the day, you will realize that life isnt a competition with others, but instead a competition against yourself. If you thought problems were just like solving math questions, you are yet to learn that the real problems are things that you are yet to cross in your life. Do not be intimidated for these obstacles will only make the end product even better. After several coats of knowledge and experience, Im sure these will help and contribute to a one of a kind piece of work. And I hope that when youve finished your masterpiece you will do what true artists will do. Youll share it to the world and show them what knowledge youve learned and empower them to succeed too in life. Thank You for everything, congratulations and Luceat Lux! *******
The Valedictorian
There was once a time when I didnt care for my grades, when each day was just a day, and when each class was just a class. I remember just breezing through subjects, just waiting for recess, or lunch, then, eventually, dismissal, so I could go home and forget about school. Looking at this assembly today, I realize that that person could have never stood where I am today. But what have I done really? Me being in this spot right now doesnt really mean anything, if I wasnt here, someone else would. Sadly, it is not me who is required to speak; it is the valedictorian who is required to brandish a speech. I am the epitome of this schools standards. I am this schools vision manifest. I have persevered against all difficulties, passed through every trial, and rose up above everyone. I am the best, I am the school, I am the valedictorian. Why do I keep coming back to that point? That this spot is just a spot, and that anybody can fill it? Because it is. Each one of you can replace me, its just that none of have chosen to do so. But it is impossible to belittle this position. I do enjoy being here. For one, I get to rant to my peers. Within me, I gained the power to just reach out for my goals and achieve them. I need not claw. I am recognized as a model student, which makes me an unorthodox teacher. One can even say, I am the light that penetrates the darkness of procrastination, laziness, and obscurity. I empowered myself to attain my position and the journey here was a lot more meaningful then simply standing here. I have heard his call, I have walked his path, filled with bramble. We may call a rose a rose, and a thorn a thorn, but they are still of one being. Keep calling a thorny rose a thorny rose and you will forget that it is a rose. I ask you to listen to yourself, to push as far as you can outwards and inwards. Walk your path and see what the world looks like from his side. I may make it sound that this position means nothing, because it means nothing. I ask you all to go on a journey, try your best, even if you dont get to be on top, it doesnt matter. If you do win, you are put into a frame and set aside as a trophy of an institution. I ask you to go on a pilgrimage to your soul and find out what your limits are. I tell you, as a person who has trodden that path, the steps you take to get there are more valuable to you than the land itself. You will guide yourself, the path is yours to make. All you have to do is rouse the person within. He is within all of you, listen to him, and you can stand with him, as I do now. *******
Years That Gone By
A long time ago, a man once said that it is not the years in a mans life that matters, but it is the life in his years. My fellow graduates, what does thirteen years of Xavier education mean to you? Is it just time that has come and gone? Is it the years that have finally come to an end? Or is it more than just that? My brothers, if that is all what they mean to you, then I am sorry that you have failed to reap the fruits of your labor. These thirteen years are filled with more than just months and weeks of experience and learning. The last four years I have spent studying in Xavier with you, my fellow classmates, makes me truly say that I am better than what others say I could be. In fact, we all are, whether we know it or not. As a class, we may have gone through many difficult trials, events that shattered our unity. There have been many fingers pointed and many backs stabbed for a multitude of reasons, but all this led us to where we are today. People have suffered and left, and there are some who even joined us, but we, as a whole, remained the same entity. We are one body that grows in heart and soul as the days go by. Four years has done to me what took a lifetime for some. I stand here today speaking to all of you as a monument of what this class has become. I assure you all that we make others envy. I cannot but express pride in being a member of this class, my second family. My friends, the future holds limitless possibilities. Most of us would probably get into the world of business. Some perhaps would enter the realms of engineering. Even more maybe in literature, but one thing I believe is a good outcome for us all. We are not men of failure, and together, we shall rise and overcome. In the end, no other word expresses my feeling more than community. It is the binding force that links us to each other. We are one growing community, and lets all keep it that way. 4B for life! *******
