process, as for example in the cake form. The incoming feed is partially grated, homogenized and forced down into the screw feeder. The screw has a variable drive enabling it to convey the product into the drying chamber, which allows the required drying of the product. The agitator / disintegrator / lump-breaker in the drying chamber bottom rotates at suitable RPM, assisting the lump breaking/disintegration. The hot drying air from the air distributor carries away the dried particles. The powder loaded air is taken out at the chamber top, led to the bag filter and separated through the rotary valve. The described process flow is of course basic and there are numerous combinations of process flows depending on the actual requirement. The drying mechanism The wet product drops down in the chamber bottom from the screw conveyor. The rotating agitator breaks the lumps in the chamber bottom and mechanical disintegration starts. The drying air is led tangentially into the air distributor and consequently a high velocity whirling gas flow moves up through the chamber walls. When the particle through attrition and disintegration looses settling velocity they get transported to the chamber top and leave. As the smallest and most dry particles move towards the axis of the eddy in the chamber. With a correct selection of operating conditions a state of equilibrium is obtained, in which the supply rate of moist material is in balance with the corresponding discharge rate of dried product of a desired specification. It is an important feature that the particles remain in the drying zone, just as long as it takes to dry them out and no longer. This self-adjusting residence time is rather unique and is generally not found in other drying processes. Due to effective and self controlling drying process, the influence from heat on heat sensitive products is remarkable low even at high drying temperature.
