QUADS BACKGROUND The interest in the "QUADS" offense was initially made popular in the early to mid 80's when Archie "The Gunslinger" Cooley unleashed his "Satellite Express Offense". Utilizing a no-huddle tempo style of attack, Mississippi Valley State University strategically placed four receivers to one side of the formation and future NFL Hall of Famer, Jerry Rice on the opposite side. With Willie Totten operating as the Delta Devils QB, MVSU broke numerous NCAA passing records and stirred the imaginations of coaches around the nation with it's high flying air- circus. While seemingly " unorthodox" in appearance, the QUAD ATTACK is based upon sound football fundamentals and can be incorporated into any offense. The only limiting element to this style of play is your own imagination!
QUAD ATTACK PHILOSOPHY: 1. The formation quickly spreads the field horizontally and vertically with five immediate deep threats. 2. The opponent will be forced out of playing their base defensive scheme. 3. The defense will be forced to make alignment and assignment decisions which can be easily countered when the opponent over-adjusts. 4. Favorable mismatches can be easily attained by isolating your best athlete against the opponents weakest pass defender. 5. The attack is simple to install and use, as unlimited multiple formations can be coupled with relatively few plays. 6. The system features a quick release- high percentage passing game that discourages pressure schemes by the defense. 7. Due to it's so-called "unorthordox" alignment, the defense will usually only prepare simple-vanilla schemes. 8. By design, the QUAD set makes the playing field equal against superior opponents. Size and speed advantages can be negated as defenders are made to "play in space". 9. Play selections are based upon the "hit 'em where they ain't" principles.

THE SINGLE RECEIVER SIDE The strategy behind the single receiver side is to force the defense into playing one on one coverage vs your top athlete. The basic route of this position is the "SLANT/LOOK-IN ROUTE". In order to keep the defense honest and away from over playing the base route, patterns that employ "DOUBLE MOVES" must be installed. These routes can be called in the huddle or signalled between the QB and receiver. While the second move routes are numerous, the following routes are to be used as guidelines. Suggested routes include: 1) SLANT-CORNER 2) SLANT N' GO 3) WHIP 4) STOP N' GO
