The Keene Koinoia: Pastor's Corner
Keene Evangelical Free Church Newsletter August 2012 See what I mean. And I could go much deeper into each of these points. I am amazed at the simplicity and yet complexity of Scripture and the truths that it lays before us truths about our life and about Christ Jesus. Spend some much needed quiet time with the Lord and allow him to talk ever so clearly to you. You will be amazed at his Word! Blessings, Pastor Matt
Pastors Corner
This last week I had the privilege to speak at Camp Joy th th to a bunch of 5 and 6 graders. During some much need quiet time I began to read in Colossians. As I read Col. 2.6-10 I was struck by the span of the Christians walk that these short verses covered - from first receiving Christ through His deity and power. There is a lifetime of study packed into these verses! Take a second or two to read them and then look at the progression that it shows: 1. Receive Christ Jesus as Lord this speaks of our acceptance of His free gift of forgiveness and salvation. It shows the action ne eded on our part and the grace given on His. As Lord, Jesus become more than a belief system or ideology. It speaks of relationship and surrender to someone elses will over my own. 2. Continue to live in him wow, this is the hard part. Living out what now we confess to be our new identity. A life in Christ. Notice it is a continuation, not just a moment or time of accepting Christ as Lord. Our life in Christ never stops. 3. How does this living in him work rooted and built up in him. We cannot expect to live in him if our roots are not in him, if we are not built up in him. To be build up in something is to say that not only is that thing our foundation upon which we stand it is also the material in which we are made of. Our grounding is in Christ. He is our root. Remember, it is the root that brings nourishment; it is the root that sustains the plant; it is the root that gives the tree stability; etc., etc. Without a root, nothing lives. Nor do we. Scripture says that without a root in Christ we are like the wind, tossed to and fro at the whim of whatever comes along. 4. Strengthened in the faith and overflowing with thankfulness these are evidence of a live in Christ. How is your faith? Strong? What about the thankfulness part? Even in the hottest of weather [like what we are experiencing in a very real way!]? 5. Verse 8 is the warning of the very subtle yet destructive temptation that Satan uses in our modern, western world hollow and deceptive philosophies. 6. And yet, in Christ, we have the fullness of the deity. God Himself! And that God has been given to us in Christ Jesus. We have the one who is head over every power and authority with, and in, us. What greater promise and hope is there than that?!
