III. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 3.1 DATA GATHERING TECHNIQUES The study for the proposed Childrens development and Interactive hub, involves several research methodology to be used recommend for these topic as a collecting significant data to attain solutions for the issues involved in the study, the researcher used methods namely, Qualitative Research methods that includes; Descriptive, Direct Observation Method, Casual Comparative Method and Participatory Research Method. Qualitative: Descriptive Research The Descriptive research enables to have a more study on guidelines on child care development, psychological and social aspects of it, even current trends and technologies to be applied. It is the research method that creates a vast knowledge that involves analysis and identification of the needs of the users of the development and even learning their behavioral activities to enhance it and target the convenience of each. As this method has a various ways of obtaining information, involves a better way of enhancing the study. It provides the researcher a supple ways of receiving information as well as knowledge about the existing conditions of the topic development. Through personal interviews that involve a one on one conversation to really have an extensive gathering of information and views from different individuals and professionals. Moreover, Keen observation are needed to give the researcher the freedom on ways of enhancing personal analysis on things guided by existing knowledge; developmental studies that further creates a step by step information gathering for the researcher to have careful analysis. As such, Interviews/Surveys, Interpret and Observe Events, Case Studies &Trend Analysis are to be used. Direct Observation Method The Direct Observation Method was used in the process of the observation of the factors contributing to the early childhood programs, everything from the childrens behavior and interaction, to the facilities and spaces that are required in a child care facility. Casual Comparative Method The Casual Comparative Method was used mostly in comparing the habits of the Filipinos, especially the children who will occupy the spaces inside the proposed building. Interview method The interview method was used for getting details and information about the early childhood education, workshop centers and child care health system from the specialized people in the said fields. Participatory Research As the Participatory method enhances the individual involvement of the users, it gains the knowledge on how users needs are provided and even disregarded by the current 37 Chapter 3: Research Methodology

developments. This also enhances the effective analysis on users behavior and further assists the researcher on targeting the solutions to achieve a better design for comfort and effective residence. In this way the researcher also could get the various types of solutions from different parties to be considered to participate and even through further research to actually enhance the current development. It also identifies and concretize the existing and broader problems of the residential development and enables again the researcher realize minor circumstances as a vital part of the development to be addressed as gained through various individual insights. And Lastly, The survey method was frequently used for getting the input of local and international case study about their respective overview and what they think about it. Also getting the pulse of the people will reflect clearly in this kind of technique. Definition of Terms: 1. Participant Observation One of the most common methods for qualitative data collection, participant observation is also one of the most demanding. It requires that the researcher become a participant in the culture or context being observed. The literature on participant observation discusses how to enter the context, the role of the researcher as a participant, the collection and storage of field notes, and the analysis of field data. Participant observation often requires months or years of intensive work because the researcher needs to become accepted as a natural part of the culture in order to assure that the observations are of the natural phenomenon. 2. Direct Observation Direct observation is distinguished from participant observation in a number of ways. First, a direct observer doesn't typically try to become a participant in the context. However, the direct observer does strive to be as unobtrusive as possible so as not to bias the observations. Second, direct observation suggests a more detached perspective. The researcher is watching rather than taking part. Consequently, technology can be a useful part of direct observation. For instance, one can videotape the phenomenon or observe from behind one-way mirrors. Third, direct observation tends to be more focused than participant observation. The researcher is observing certain sampled situations or people rather than trying to become immersed in the entire context. Finally, direct observation tends not to take as long as participant observation. For instance, one might observe child-mother interactions under specific circumstances in a laboratory setting from behind a one-way mirror, looking especially for the nonverbal cues being used. 3. Survey It involves collecting demographic data about peoples behavior, practices, intentions, beliefs, attitudes, opinions, judgments, interests, perceptions which are analyzed, organized and interpreted. Also it is a powerful tool in getting the needs and wants of the individuals especially the possible and current users of the development. Gathering data from this methodology could be of great source of knowledge to achieve the desires and preferences of the possible users, in which also targets your users tranquil and comfort. 38 Chapter 3: Research Methodology

4. Case Study Case study is a comprehensive, complete, detailed and in-depth study and analysis of an individual, institution, group or community. It consists of data relating to some phase of the life history of the unit or relating to the entire life processes. Provided that the researcher can have critical analysis on the child care facilities as further readings of new as well as old developments to gain knowledge about it and grasp the perfect solution for the project. 3.3 RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS The researcher targeted the following participants; Parents, Guardian, Child care professionals, Children, Day care workers and other knowledgeable in this field. These participants were proven useful in gathering critical information regarding the project. 3.4 RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS The researcher used instruments such as the internet, books that are borrowed from the library, magazines, newspapers for gathering facts and information regarding the projects problem and solutions. In site investigation, the researcher will use a camera for taking pictures, directional compass for determining orientation and a notebook for writing down or sketching important details. 3.5 DATA ANALYSIS In analyzing, documenting and organizing gathered data, the computer and scientific calculator shall be used. Computer software used for creating tables, word processing and transforming schemes into digital working drawings are under this category.
