Architectural Program Form: Republic of The Philippines Tacloban City

This document contains an architectural program form used by the Eastern Visayas State University College of Architecture. The form guides students through developing a program for a studio project, including: describing the project and site; identifying major building spaces and their relationships; identifying user activities and space requirements; developing area and room data sheets; illustrating space relationships and circulation; and developing preliminary schematic plans. The program form helps students systematically work through defining the functional and spatial needs of the project to inform preliminary design.

BUILDING SPACES PROGRAM

AREA PROGRAMMING:

Identify the major categories or areas required to accommodate the major activities identified. Describe the function and characteristics/ conditions of the major space categories including their planning relationships. Include major space categories outside the building/s.

ACTIVITY & USER IDENTIFICATION:

Identify the major group activities, which shall occur within the building/s and its environment. Identify also the projects major user (e.g. Public, Staff/Personnel, etc.) and the corresponding room or area required accommodating the activities. State any special characteristics or conditions of major activities or users which may have impact on the building design. This involves identification of the essential design considerations, including a listing of required facilities and user related data involved to support and achieve the intended function of the room. Essential considerations include the following: 2.1 ACTIVITIES INVOLVED: a listing that provides a clearer understanding of the activities done within a designated area or room. The specific description of the activities involved gives information on the room/area users, type and number of furniture or facilities needed to support the activities listed. PEOPLE INVOLVED: a listing that provides information on the number of occupants of rooms/areas. Through anthropometrics, space quantification can be done to identify room/ area sizes to accommodate the activities of the occupants. ROOM/AREA REQUIRED: this involves identification of rooms or spaces required to support the user activities. Major space categories are identified, which are in turn subdivided into specific rooms. CHARACTERISTICS & CONDITIONS: this involves identification of activity, user or room characteristics or special requirements which may have impact on the planning and/or design of the building. (e.g. Sound isolation requirements, need for view, etc.) PLANNING RELATIONSHIP: this indicates the areas and services that are to be located adjacent to each other or at least immediately accessible to the room/area being referred to.

FUNCTIONAL DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

Identify the Functional Design Criteria of the specific rooms or spaces based on their functions, number of users, furniture/ fixture requirements. Through anthropometrics, computation of room sizes can be done. The Area Facility Sheet Index and the Room Data Sheet aids the designer in preparation of the Preliminary Designs/ Schematics.

SPACE RELATIONSHIP MATRIX & CIRCULATORY DIAGRAMS

Illustrate the interrelationships of rooms or spaces in the Space Relationship Matrix. From the matrix, a Circulatory Diagram can be constructed, indicating traffic flow areas and integrating room sizes thereto.

SCHEMATIC PLANS
Based from the Circulatory Diagrams and the integration of data from previous studies, prepare the Schematics or Preliminary Plans indicating room sizes, openings, traffic/ circulatory areas and other design requirements. Schematic drawings should be properly scaled.
