Reduced Series Reactor

Series reactors are used to limit current flow and manage the relative loading of parts of electrical networks. They use the same high voltage technology as power transformers but have different magnetic and mechanical design requirements due to noise, vibration, seismic activity, and transport constraints. The document discusses various core types for series reactors and shows images of reactor components, 3D electromagnetic field analysis, and testing of large series reactors rated up to 1860MVA at 400kV.

Series Reactors
Main function is to manage current flow Limit current into a substation or control the relative loading of parts of a network. A fixed equipment. Need to have a long term requirement Simple and maintenance free Uses the same high voltage technology as power transformers Different magnetic and force problems. Mechanical design. Noise and vibration. Seismic requirements. Transport constraints.
