LPS Freshman Lab Report Rubric

This document outlines the rubric for grading a freshman lab report. It provides criteria in several key areas: stating the problem, developing a hypothesis, describing procedures and collecting data, analyzing the data, and drawing conclusions. Students are evaluated on correctly identifying the problem and variables, forming a testable hypothesis, carrying out experiments and recording results, organizing and presenting the data, and determining whether the data supports or rejects the hypothesis while discussing sources of error. The goal is for students to learn the scientific process through hands-on experimentation and written reporting of findings.
