DEVELOPMENT-refers to the progressive series of changes of an orderly and coherent type toward the goal of maturity. PROGRESSIVE-changes are directional, leading to positive results. ORDERLY & COHERENT-development is not haphazard.

FACTORS OF DEVELOPMENT 1. Maturation-unfolding of potentially present traits (hereditary endowment) -(Gesell, 1977) Net sum of the gene effects operating in a selflimited lifestyle. 2. Learning -result of daily activities & experience

RATE OF DEVELOPMENT 1. Rapid-0 to 6 years old (except for the first 2 weeks of the child called the plateau where no development happens. 2. Slow-6 years old to adolescence.
