TYPES OF DETERMINERS AND ARTICLES


DETERMINERS
Articles(the hat, a hat, an opera) Posessive nouns/pronouns(Marys hat, her hat) Numbers (five hats, eight hats, twenty hats) Indefinite pronouns (each hat ,some hats, both hats)

ARTICLES
Definite Articles (the)-it is use before singular or plural nouns when the nouns is specific or particular Indefinite Articles (a/an)-it has 'a' and 'an' signal that the nouns modified is indefinite, referring to any member of a group

Demonstrative pronouns (that hat, those hats)

HOW TO USE ARTICLES?


Definite Articles
Before seas, rivers and group of mountains or islands.

Indefinite Articles
Remember, using a or an depends on the sound that begins the next word: A+ singular nouns beginning with consonant. An+ singular nouns beginning with vowels. A+ singular nouns beginning with a consonant sound.

There is only one of these people or things such as the king, the UN, the sun or the Petronas twin tower.
With superlatives.

An+ nouns starting with a silent h.

HOW TO USE DETERMINERS?


Determiners signal (determine) that a noun will follow.. Their "meaning" is their function: to signal that a noun will follow. The following examples illustrate the difference: Determiner + noun tea

Adjective + noun tea

Note that each adjective has a distinct meaning. In addition, each adjective may add its comparative (-er) and superlative (-est) form

EXAMPLES OF ARTICLES
Definite Articles(the) - I just saw the most popular movie of the year.

Indefinite Articles(a/an) - Somebody get a doctor here!


- When I was at the zoo, I saw an elephant.

The cat slept with him/ I saw a bird flying/ an electric eel just stung me!!

Possesive nouns/ pronouns


Hey! Thats Ahmads wallet. It belongs to him.

Numbers
I have five cats in my house.

Indefinite pronoun
Do you want some noodles?/ both hats belongs to me.

Demonstrative pronoun
That boy just hit me!/ those people are brave./ this kid is actually my uncle.
