An object is in motion if its position changes over time, and at rest if its position does not change over time. The car in the picture is in motion while the trees are at rest. Displacement can be calculated as the difference between the final and initial positions over the time interval on a distance-time graph. The area under the graph represents displacement, which is the sum of the area of the triangle and rectangle for a velocity-time graph. Equations for calculating velocity and displacement using initial velocity, acceleration and time are also presented.
