Additional Example For Lecture 1

The document describes a nylon-core flat belt that is 200mm wide and transmits 60kW of power at 25m/s. The belt weighs 2kg/m and is used to connect a 300mm diameter shaft to a 900mm diameter pulley with 6m spacing. It then (a) calculates the belt length as 12.57m and wrap angles as 191.5 degrees, and (b) computes the belt tensions as 4.59kN and 2.19kN using a friction coefficient of 0.38.

A nylon-core flat belt has an elastomer envelope, is 200 mm wide, and transmits 60 kW af a belt speed of 25 mls.

The belt has a mass of 2 kg/m of belt length. The belt is used in a crossed driving pulley to a 900-mm-diameter pulley at a configuration to connect a 300-rnm~diameter shaft spacing of 6 m. (a) Calculate the belt length and the angles of wrap. (b) Compute the belt-tensions based on a coefficient of friction of 0.38.
