Performance Modelling and Analysis of Manufacturing Systems

The document discusses performance modeling and analysis of manufacturing systems. It contains questions related to topics like: 1. Performance measures of automated manufacturing systems and calculating mean lead time (MLT) for a batch of parts undergoing multiple operations. 2. Components of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) and various network topologies. 3. Modeling manufacturing systems and equipment as queues and analyzing their performance using concepts like Poisson processes, birth-death processes, and Markov chains. 4. Types of queuing models that can be used to describe material handling devices like AGVs and conveyors, and the significance of performance measures and Little's law for these queues. 5. System Explain? A part undergoes five operations, as shown in Table 1, on five different machines. The table gives the setup, queue, and processing times. The average inspection time, moving time and waiting time before moving add up to 10h for each operation. Find MLT for a batch size of 100. Draw the architecture of FMS and explain the function of each component in detail? Explain the various network topologies with sketch? What is the superposition and decomposition of a poisson process? A machine produces parts in such a way that the stream of finished parts is a Poisson process with rate =10 per h. i) What is the probability that it produces no finished part in 1 h? ii) What is the expected time at which the 20th finished part is produced? iii) What is the probability that 100 parts are produced in a shift of 8 h, assuming that the machine works nonstop during the shift. Define the BD process in manufacturing? Also explain the steady state analysis of BD process. A job shop comprises three identical machines and a certain number n of identical repair facilities. and are, respectively, the failure rate and repair rate for each machine, where it is assumed that the time to failure and the time to repair are both exponentially distributed. What is the utilization of each machine in the following in the following cases: (1) n=1, (2) n=2, (3) n=3? What will happen if n=0? Formulate the M/M/ queue as a Markov chain. Compute the performance measures for this queue assuming an arrival rate of and a service rate of for each server. How do you analyze the flexible machining center? AGVs, conveyors and robots are typical material handling devices in an AMS. Discuss what type of queuing models A/S/M/K/M describe their working best. Also identify the significance of the performance measures and the consequences of littles result for these queues. For the Petri net given below, develop the D and D incidence matrices. Draw reachability graph. Comment on the performance using reachability graph.
