Poetry
In my classroom, we work with several poems each month during Shared Reading. The first two weeks of the month we spend learning the poems and practicing reading them. The last two weeks of the mo nth wed add one poem per day to our Poetry Notebooks. Adding a poem means we glue a copy of the poem into a clean page of our notebook, illustrate the poem and work with the text (sight words, word families, punctuation, etc). We also read the poems of the month the last two weeks as well, just at a quicker pace. Poetry notebooks are stored in a book bin near the writing area, allowing children to always access their notebook during literacy station time for further reading or writing.
