Duobinary Signaling

1) Duobinary signaling permits transmission at the Nyquist rate while using realizable filters with smoother responses than traditional signaling, but the system must cope with controlled intersymbol interference (ISI). 2) Duobinary signaling transmits information using pulses shaped as a sinc function, which allows transmission over channels that do not pass direct current. 3) Precoding can be used at the transmitter to avoid error propagation during detection by subtracting the previous symbol estimate from the received signal. This precoded duobinary scheme allows reliable detection of transmitted binary symbols.
