Parking Lot Scuffle

The conflict escalated to physical violence because Jay was not in the mood to argue and started walking away, which made Tim feel disrespected so he grabbed Jay. The answer assumes Jay's mood and how Tim felt when Jay turned to leave. Explanations for other conflicts often assume a lack of understanding between parties, differences in beliefs, and an unwillingness to listen or compromise.

1. Why did this conflict escalate to physical violence?

I believe this situation escalated to physical violence because both people were asking each other questions and neither were getting answers. Jay was not in the mood to argue and started walking away. Tim felt disrespected by Jay turning his back on him as he did and grabbed Jay, thus initiating the physical violence. 2. What assumptions does your answer reveal? My answer makes an assumption of the mood Jay was in and how he was feeling at the time. Also, the feeling that Tim had when Jay turned to walk away 3. Consider the explanations that have been offered for well-known conflicts: the war in Iraq, the role of gay clergy in churches, the Ruby Ridge shootings, or others. What assumptions underlie these explanations? Most conflicts are from a lack of understanding, difference in beliefs and opinions, and unwilling to listen to the other party and/or compromise.
