Any design, development, testing, deployment and marketing of software applications fall under this category. The application can be in embedded form within devices, packaged software or online applications, The second category is the shared services and outsourcing (SSO). The services category is broadly defined as provision of the IT and the IT-enabled services to vertical industries such as Oil & Gas, Healthcare and Banking across geopolitical boundaries. Examples of the SSO include business process outsourcing, data processing and call centre services. The third category is creative content. Creative content is defined as goods that have strong cultural, aesthetics or entertainment value. Examples of these goods are movies, animation, infotainment or video games. Therefore, any activity related to the creation and distribution of such item falls under this category. The ICT industry is indeed very broad in nature. But the focus on these three categories is intentional as it rides on a culturally diverse knowledge workforce, one of Malaysia's key strength. The ICT sector has also been identified as one of the engines for wealth creation under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).
