ACS Cobham International School, Cobham, United Kingdom 2010 - present International school offering an American curriculum for local and international children aged 2 -18. ACS Cobham has been accredited by the British Government as well as the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Teacher -First Grade Instruct all academic subject areas to First Grade students in an international school setting. Designed, developed and adapted curriculum to meet the individual, academic and social needs of my students with varying strengths and abilities, including children with special needs, gifted students and English Language Learners. Fostered meaningful relationships with students, parents and other educators to create a warm and inviting environment in which all can grow, academically, socially and emotionally.
Contributions & Achievements: First Grade Team Leader for 2011-2012 school year. Responsible for developing agenda for and leading biweekly First Grade team meetings. Spokesperson for the First Grade team at weekly Lower School Team Leader meetings with administrators. Took leadership role in Project I, a pilot project to use iPads in first and second grade classrooms, co-coordinating a research project to determine the effect of iPads on student engagement. Integrated technology through the use of an interactive whiteboard to teach daily calendar and math routines as well as the student use of iPads to support the first grade curriculum. Assessed student performance through formal and informal methods, such as anecdotal records, individual conferencing, checklists, student portfolios and the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA). Adept at using teaching strategies and techniques that promote student engagement, inquiry and authentic learning experiences through whole group, small group and individualized instruction. Assessed student outcomes with formative and summative assessments and use this feedback to inform instruction. Engaged in effective and appropriate classroom management techniques using the Responsive Classroom approach.
Wrote weekly newsletters, regularly updated class and grade level website and encouraged frequent parent conferences to support open communication with families.
