Macro Function = Meta Function
A metafunction can describe one or more other (minor) functions.
1. The Ideational Function
Definition Conceptualising process-to give an idea Use language to: -identify things -instruments of thought -provide a record Bring the world into being linguistically.
2. The Interpersonal Function
Using language as a personal medium Concerned with the relationship between ourselves and other people or things. Language is very essential in personalising process. Language as a means of communication or to release nervous/physical energy.
3. The Poetic Function
The ability to bring the world into being the area of play Bring delight to ourselves and others Through metaphor, jokes, rhythm we express our own creative freedom.
4. The Textual Function
Relates to our abilities to construct texts out of our utterances and writings.
