Intro: Hedra Lightshader

Hedra Lightshader is originally designed with 3d studio max and opened with pepakura designer. You may ask why this lightshader's name is hedra instead of triangle or sphere. Its hedra becouse it was modeled using hedra primitive and the core part (without big triangles)is kinda hedra. This was a school project of mine for this term and it will finish when i upload it to this site. The main point of this project was create a D.I.Y furniture and instruct people how to do that. The majority of the lightshader is made of 100gr bristol and 300 gr craft paper. I love using this stuff to make things It's strong (as a paper) and stable and very easy to cut - and it's made of a renewable resource! You may use it with standard lamps (35w -40w etc) and It is easy to mount on a holder

Step 1: What we need

--------Materials ------100 gr bristol paper 12 (35x50mm) We are usig this paper for printing 300 gr craft paper 12 (35x50mm) tracing paper 1 (70x100mm) setsquare utility knife ( you can use scissors but u can live problems if u cannot manage to cut properly) glue - you may prefer quick drying one Blueprint of the project Note :The paper size is up to you. It affects only the size of final product but dont change the paper aspect ratio . if u change it, it may not close properly (even not close)

Step 2: Step one:getting started

First of all we need to glue printings to craft paper properly. if u not glue all of the surfaces after the cutting it can be seperated each other. But if you use too much glue,probably u ll mess your table. After dry cleaning the glue from table or floor can be headache After gluing the papers we can pass cutting stage. On my diagrams you will find 3 different line types - Solid line :You ll completely cut theese lines when u saw them -Dashed line: You will not cut it completely but scratch it in order to bend it easily and more aimed. To do that u can use back side of utility knife - Dashed line with dots: Again u will scratch it NOTE: The difference between dashed line and dashed line with dots is that u will bend dashed line towards to you and opposite for dashed line with dots

Step 3: Bending all

As i mentioned at step one ; u will bend dashed line towards to you and opposite for dashed line with dots. This step can take a lot of time but after u finish you will see its worth to do that. In order to bend proper and nicely u can put a ruler on to line then push the ruler and bend the paper . with this technique u can get really sharp edges that help you glue easily. After bending all the edges u should glue the flaps. Its really easy to follow; u should glue two edges that have same number . I gave you all(actually we have two of them) modul's photographs so u will know what should you do

Step 4: Adding shaders to the frame

At this part we will cut tracing paper and glue inside the frames we had craft. The tricky part of this process is how can we glue inside of the big triangle frames. u can simply glue tracing paper but it has a risk that u can overglue or wrong place. i should mention that tracing paper should be clean and stretct othewise when we give the light from the inside u only see the shadow of the glue everywhere. This is somthing that we dont want.I use syringe and put the glue inside so i didnt overglue and i reached anywhere i want.

Step 5: Conclusion
After adding tracer paper we are almost finish our lightshader. At this stage we will connect all the parts togather. this can be difficult or easy its depend on the size of your hand , object, how did u manage the last steps. we will use pepakura viewer as helper. it is very easy to use this program i will show you how to manage that with images.The program will show us which part will go where exactly You can download pepakura viewer here . Its free to use It takes long time to add notes so i ll write down here . in the first image i mention that u can simply use left and right mouse button to rotate,to move hold down midle mouse button and to zoom in and out use scroll wheel of your mouse Second image there is the menu place of display settings At the third image there is a window (display settings) that u can change view settings and the opening dimensions between parts.I show this becouse if u make it maximum u can easly see which part go where At the fourth image if u click one part u can see which part and where it is holding place.(if u lost and mix which part u are holding u you may always check the edge numbers) At the fifth image u can simply mouse over the edge to see its neighbor
