Chairman & Managing Director, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) Mr Debashish Majumdar is the Chairman & Managing Director of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA). Mr Majumdar has been with IREDA for over thirteen years. IREDA is a unique developmental financial institution set up in 1987 by the Government of India. IREDAs specific role is development of renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors. IREDA finances projects covering almost all renewable energy technologies including wind energy, hydro, bio energy, solar energy, municipal solid waste-to-energy, alternate fuels, as well as energy efficiency. Mr Majumdar has worked in both private and public sector and has rich experience of more than 34 years in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency. He started his career with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energyrelated / infrastructure sector, where he pioneered the trailblazing concept of end-use Solar PV applications for Railway and Telecom signaling. Prior to joining IREDA, he has also worked with M/s Renewable Energy Systems Ltd. Hyderabad as General Manager (SPV) where he was instrumental in development of new markets for solar products and systems independent of government subsidies. He is Member of several professional national and international organizations and also represents IREDA in various committees / groups constituted by the Government of India in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency. Mr Majumdar is a professional Engineer and holds a B.Tech Degree in Electrical Engineering (1976) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
