How to Measure Your Bra Cup and Band Size


Why is Knowing Your Bra Size So Important?
Wearing undergarments that fit properly is about more than just accentuating your attributes and concealing trouble areas; as the foundation of every woman's outfit, a properly fitting bra affects your posture as well as the health of breast tissue. A bra that is too loose will allow breasts to sag and cause back problems due to strain; if it's too tight the elastic and underwire can pinch and poke sensitive areas leading to discomfort, bruising, and even breast health problems, such as blocked milk ducts.

Most Women Wear the Wrong Bra Size


According to a June 27, 2006 article on Time.com, "If Your Bra Doesn't Fit, Go Shopping," up to 85 percent of women in the world are wearing the wrong bra size. That means if you're a woman who wears a bra, you're most likely one of the boob offenders, treating your breasts badly by squeezing them into too-small cups or letting them swing haphazardly due to lack of support.

Bra Measurement
Step 1, Measure for Band Size: Keeping the measuring tape parallel with the ground, measure around your bra directly under your bust after expelling all air from your lungs - you want this measurement to be as small as possible. Round all fractional measurements to the nearest whole number. Take the measurement in inches. if the measurement is even, add 4" if the measurement is odd, add 5" Step 2, Measure for Cup Size: Standing straight, with your arms at your side, measure at the fullest part of your bust (while wearing a non-padded bra) making sure the measuring tape is parallel with the ground and not binding. Again the measurement has to be in inches. Round all fractional measurements to the nearest whole number. Step 3, Calculate Your Bra Size: Subtract your band measurement (step 1) from your cup measurement (step 2). Generally, for each inch in difference, the cup goes up by one size. Example: Step 1: 34" under measurement +4" = 38" band Step 2: 40" over measurement

Step 3: 40" - 38" = 2" or Cup "B" Your size would be 38B
